PMS 875 C from the Pantone PMS collection is a metallic copper-brown color characterized by a dark value and moderately high chroma. Visually, this color is warm, metallic, and somewhat muted, with a technical, professional, and robust appearance. It is typically used in contexts that require a metallic effect to convey a sense of refinement, stability, or heritage.

PMS 875 C appears dark, with a low light reflectance value (LRV 16.02). The color has a warm undertone owing to its copper-brown metallic base. It shows moderate to strong saturation but is less vivid than pure metallic golds or brasses. The metallic effect greatly depends on surface finish and lighting, often enhancing or diminishing the depth and shimmer. PMS 875 C’s appearance may shift when applied as paint based on substrate and coating texture.

PMS 875 C is frequently used for metallic brand elements in printed corporate communications, signage, and displays. This color is often selected for components that need to reference copper or bronze metals, such as awards, plaques, or specialty packaging accents.

PMS 875 C is suitable when a metallic, copper-influenced appearance is required in branding, point-of-sale materials, or fabricated displays. Accurate color representation relies significantly on substrate preparation and finish; glossy or satin finishes will increase the perceived metallic quality, while matte finishes may reduce depth. Lighting can cause considerable shifts in perceived color and reflectance, especially in metallics. PMS 875 C is less red and less vivid than some similar metallics, which can make it preferable for understated brand elements. Evaluate with a physical sample in the intended finish and installation lighting to avoid surprise shifts in metallic effect.

Similar colors:
PMS 876 C: Slightly darker and redder, yielding a deeper bronze metallic effect.

PMS 877 C: A cooler metallic silver, lacking the warm brown undertone of PMS 875 C.

PMS 872 C: Lighter and less chromatic, more gold-toned and less copper-rich than PMS 875 C.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 875 C

What should I consider when specifying PMS 875 C for pop-ups or retail environments?

When using PMS 875 C in pop-up or retail settings, it is important to evaluate the finish, durability requirements, and lighting. The metallic effect of PMS 875 C strongly depends on the surface finish and installation lighting. For large or high-visibility projects, test a physical sample in your intended environment before full production to confirm the visual effect and color acceptance. Be aware that different substrates and coating textures may alter the final appearance. Ensure durability is appropriate for expected wear and site conditions before ordering.

How much coverage can I expect from a spray can of PMS 875 C paint?

Each spray can of PMS 875 C generally covers about 20 square feet with one coat. Actual coverage can vary depending on how the paint is applied, the texture and color of the substrate, and the number of coats required to achieve full opacity, especially with metallic finishes like PMS 875 C. For brand-critical applications, plan for sample testing and consider ordering extra in case additional coats are needed to achieve uniform color and metallic effect.

Why does PMS 875 C look different under various lighting conditions?

The appearance of PMS 875 C can shift significantly depending on the type and intensity of lighting where it is installed. Metallic finishes, like PMS 875 C, are especially sensitive to lighting because their reflectance and shimmer are influenced by the light source. To avoid unexpected color differences, always evaluate a sample in the actual lighting where the finished piece will be used, and check the appearance from different angles if possible.

If you need PMS 875 C for a time-sensitive project, expedited production options may be available during checkout. Can I use the Pantone PMS 875 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

Most people don't use a primer for a touch up paint application, but a primer may improve adhesion and is typically recommended for exterior applications.
How do I convert PMS 875 C to a different color from another paint company?

While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 875 C in paint, we don't provide any crossover information. We've found that every paint company offers its own unique selection of colors and rarely does a color have an exact equivalent in another company's color collection, especially for a color collection like Pantone which is designed for bright colors and inks.
