PMS 876 C is part of the Pantone Matching System (Pantone PMS), a widely adopted standard for specifying consistent color in branding, marketing, and production workflows. The color conveys a metallic, technical, and established vibe, evident in its medium-dark, copper-brown appearance and characteristic metallic finish intended for both print and painted surfaces. It is recognized for its strong presence and operational effectiveness where visibility and a refined, industrial character are critical.

PMS 876 C presents as a medium-dark color, with a Light Reflectance Value (LRV) of 17.59. The color is warm in temperature, reflecting copper and reddish-brown tones. PMS 876 C demonstrates medium saturation, typical of metallic finishes with visible but not overpowering chromatic strength. The undertone is distinctly copper, with clear brownish and orangish-red influences. The metallic nature makes the color sensitive to lighting conditions and application finish; gloss, matte, or satin will each alter its perceived depth and reflectance.

PMS 876 C is effective when a metallic copper-brown appearance is needed for branding components, exhibit elements, or signage requiring both visual distinctiveness and a sense of durability or prestige. It performs best when the desired finish matches the metallic intent, and users should test on the actual substrate under installation lighting to confirm character and visibility. Surface smoothness and proper surface preparation are critical, as imperfections are more apparent in metallic finishes. Compared to other metallic or brown shades, PMS 876 C offers a unique warmth and medium depth without drifting into orange or deep brown territory.

Similar colors:
PMS 875 C is slightly darker and leans more toward a deeper brown metallic appearance.

PMS 877 C is cooler, presenting as a metallic silver rather than a copper-brown.

PMS 872 C is lighter and more gold-toned, reading less red and brown compared to PMS 876 C.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 876 C

How closely will PMS 876 C paint match the color as shown in my Pantone book?

PMS 876 C in a paint format is matched to the Pantone book standard, but the final appearance can differ due to factors like paint sheen, application method, and substrate. The Pantone book uses printed ink swatches under controlled conditions, while paint can look different depending on gloss level and the surface it is applied to. For best results, sample PMS 876 C paint on the actual material and view it under installation lighting before making production decisions.

How should I choose between interior and exterior paint types for PMS 876 C?

When specifying PMS 876 C, select an interior paint type for environments not exposed to weather, moisture, or UV. Choose an exterior paint type if the color will be exposed outdoors or needs extra durability against sunlight and the elements. Confirm the correct product format with your project requirements so that PMS 876 C provides both visual brand consistency and the right level of protection where it will be used.

What safety and VOC considerations apply when using PMS 876 C paint?

Safety and VOC levels for PMS 876 C paint depend on the specific product type you select, such as spray paint or housepaint. Always review the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for the product you order and follow all recommended safety practices, including proper ventilation and protective equipment. Confirm local requirements for VOC limits and safe handling, especially in enclosed or public spaces.

What surface preparation steps are important before applying PMS 876 C paint?

For best results with PMS 876 C, clean and degrease the surface so it is free of dirt, oil, and loose material. Where appropriate, lightly scuff non-porous or glossy surfaces to improve paint adhesion. Testing a small area first is recommended to confirm the final look and adhesion. Proper surface prep is especially important for metallic finishes, since imperfections can be more visible in the final result.

How quickly will I receive my paint matched to Pantone PMS 876 C?
All paint is custom-made to order. While most orders ship within 48 hours, the lead-time for paint made to match Pantone PMS 876 C depends on the type of paint needed. Interior and exterior house paints usually ship within 1 to 3 business days, while custom spray paint typically takes 3-5 business days to ship. The transit time depends on your location and the shipping method you choose. If your need is immediate, select Expedited Production during checkout. Most expedited production orders ship within 24 hours on business days. Please contact MyPerfectColor if you are concerned about a specific deadline. We do our best to make sure you get your paint on time. Learn more about paint lead times at MyPerfectColor.
Can I use the Pantone PMS 876 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

How do I convert PMS 876 C to a different color from another paint company?

While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 876 C in paint, we don't provide any crossover information.
