PMS 7490 C is a standardized brand and identity color from the Pantone PMS collection, known for its lively, medium-dark green character. The color exhibits a direct, saturated vibe with botanical, active, and professional cues, suited to consistent communication across marketing, signage, and prototype applications.

PMS 7490 C presents as a medium-dark green with moderate light reflectance (LRV 24.92), offering presence without overwhelming brightness. The color has a clear cool tendency, leaning toward the yellow-green segment without appearing overly yellow. It shows high saturation, giving it a strong and assertive appearance. The undertone is distinctly green with a hint of yellow, making it readable as a natural green rather than a blue-green. Finish can influence perceived vibrancy; gloss finishes will intensify chromaticity, while matte or flat sheens mute its saturation.

PMS 7490 C is frequently used in brand identity systems where a vibrant green is necessary to convey themes of growth, sustainability, or natural energy. The color is often selected for retail displays, marketing props, and promotional signage prioritizing clear Brand Visual Identity communication in the environmental graphics sector.

PMS 7490 C performs effectively in brand, marketing, and display contexts where a noticeable, assertive green is needed. When specifying this color, be mindful that differences in lighting (such as fluorescent, LED, or daylight) can alter the perceived warmth or coolness. High saturation may increase the visibility of application flaws, so proper surface preparation and even coverage are important. The color will generally stand out more than similarly dark but less saturated greens, aiding in high-visibility settings without trending toward blue or teal.

This Pantone PMS color is defined by the Pantone Matching System standard. Evaluate the color using a physical Pantone reference and a real paint sample in the intended lighting and finish. Paint appearance varies by finish and lighting.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 7490 C

How does finish or sheen affect the appearance of PMS 7490 C in real-world use?

The finish or sheen you select for PMS 7490 C will significantly influence how the color is perceived. Gloss finishes increase the perceived saturation and make the color appear more vivid and brighter, while matte or flat finishes will reduce the vibrancy and mute the intensity. Because PMS 7490 C is a saturated, medium-dark green, gloss can amplify its assertiveness and make branding stand out, while matte can create a subtler, more muted effect. Always preview the color in the intended finish and lighting before finalizing your project, as both factors can change the visual impact.

What application method is best when using spray paint matched to PMS 7490 C?

For best results with spray paint matched to PMS 7490 C, apply several thin coats rather than one heavy coat. Allow proper drying or flash time between coats, even though the ideal time can vary based on conditions. This approach helps control coverage and promotes an even, high-quality finish, especially with strong colors like PMS 7490 C, which may show flaws more readily if applied unevenly. Proper surface preparation and patient application help achieve reliable brand consistency.

Does it matter if I specify PMS 7490 C versus a different suffix or series for my project?

Yes, it is important to confirm you are using the correct Pantone code, including any suffix such as 'C' for coated. PMS 7490 C refers to a specific version of the color in the Pantone PMS system. Your brand standards or design documentation should specify the correct code. Using the wrong version, such as an uncoated or different series, could result in a visible mismatch and impact brand consistency in your displays or environments.

What should I expect for lead time when ordering paint matched to PMS 7490 C?

Paint matched to PMS 7490 C is made to order to ensure accurate color matching and quality. Lead times depend on the chosen product type and current production volume. For tight marketing or installation schedules, it is recommended to plan ahead and allow sufficient time for production and delivery. If your timeline is critical, review available shipping options and contact customer support for current lead time estimates.

Can I use the Pantone PMS 7490 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
