PMS 7438 C is part of the Pantone PMS (Pantone Matching System) collection, which provides a standardized approach for specifying and communicating color across materials and processes. This color presents a vibrant, clean, and modern vibe, often perceived as bold yet approachable. It is typically selected for projects that require a visually assertive and memorable purple without veering into deep or muted territory.

PMS 7438 C presents a mid-range lightness, with an LRV of 42.19, offering balanced visibility and presence.

The color has a distinctly cool undertone influenced by its orientation on the color wheel, leaning toward a contemporary violet or magenta-leaning purple.

Saturation is moderate to high; the color maintains chromatic intensity without overpowering adjacent elements.

The undertone is bluish rather than red, which lends it a crisp, technical character.

PMS 7438 C may display noticeable variation depending on finish gloss; higher sheen can intensify its vibrancy, while matte finishes may subdue its chroma.

PMS 7438 C performs well in applications where strong visual presence and accurate color reproduction are critical, such as branded displays, event graphics, and identity-centric environments.

Users should account for potential shifts in brightness and saturation based on selected finish and installation lighting.

As with other saturated Pantone colors, uniform coverage may require proper substrate preparation and possibly multiple coats.

PMS 7438 C distinguishes itself from similar purples by being both vivid and slightly cool—less red and not as dark—making it suitable where clarity and brightness are desired under varied lighting.

Similar colors:

  • PMS 2415 C: Slightly lighter and warmer, with a pinker magenta character.
  • PMS 2592 C: Darker and significantly deeper, providing a more somber violet impression.
  • PMS 2405 C: Similar chroma but slightly warmer, resulting in a more pronounced red-violet appearance.
  • PMS 254 C: Noticeably darker, with reduced chroma and a more muted, subdued purple presence.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 7438 C

What does it mean to order PMS 7438 C paint as a Pantone match?

Ordering PMS 7438 C as a Pantone match means you are requesting paint formulated to visually match the PMS 7438 C color target as defined by the Pantone Matching System standard. This Pantone PMS code acts as a precise color reference for branding and display applications, ensuring consistency with other materials specified by the same code. However, a Pantone code is a visual target, not a paint recipe, finish, or application process. Actual appearance may vary based on the substrate, finish choice, and application method. Use PMS 7438 C when you need brand-consistent results across multiple components or vendors.

What is the recommended way to apply PMS 7438 C spray paint for strong color and an even finish?

For best results with PMS 7438 C spray paint, apply several light coats rather than one heavy coat. Allow each coat to dry sufficiently before adding the next layer. This approach helps maintain color accuracy and prevents runs or uneven coverage, which is especially important for vivid colors like PMS 7438 C. Lighter coats and careful drying lead to a smoother, more visually consistent finish that aligns with brand standards.

Can PMS 7438 C be cross-referenced to other paint brands or color systems?

PMS 7438 C is defined by the Pantone Matching System standard and does not have a guaranteed equivalent in other paint company color systems. Most major paint brands use their own unique palettes, and even if a close alternative seems available, it may not deliver the same vibrancy or visual characteristics, especially for saturated colors like PMS 7438 C. For accurate brand alignment, reference the Pantone code directly rather than seeking cross-references.

Is PMS 7438 C paint suitable for touch-up applications?

PMS 7438 C paint is formulated for brand display, prototype, and marketing environments where the Pantone color target ensures brand consistency. If you require a touch-up grade match to an existing part or surface, the best approach is to send a physical sample for a custom match. Pantone codes define a visual standard, not a manufacturing process or substrate-specific formula, so using PMS 7438 C for touch-up may not deliver the required precision.

How quickly will I receive my paint matched to Pantone PMS 7438 C?
All paint is custom-made to order. While most orders ship within 48 hours, the lead-time for paint made to match Pantone PMS 7438 C depends on the type of paint needed. Interior and exterior house paints usually ship within 1 to 3 business days, while custom spray paint typically takes 3-5 business days to ship. The transit time depends on your location and the shipping method you choose. If your need is immediate, select Expedited Production during checkout. Most expedited production orders ship within 24 hours on business days. Please contact MyPerfectColor if you are concerned about a specific deadline. Can I use the Pantone PMS 7438 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
