PMS 704 C, in the Pantone PMS system, is a dark, saturated red recognized for its distinctly warm undertones and low light reflectance value. It is perceived as strong, grounded, and assertive—frequently chosen for environments or materials needing a memorable, visually dominant red for branding or display purposes. This color delivers a bold, confident impact rather than a subdued or decorative effect.

PMS 704 C appears dark, with an LRV of 9.54. The color leans clearly warm due to a yellow-red hue angle. This color shows high saturation and visual intensity. PMS 704 C exhibits a pronounced red undertone with subtle earthy notes. The color’s depth can be affected by finish: higher gloss may intensify chroma, while matte finishes may emphasize its grounded quality.

PMS 704 C works well for branded displays, signage, and environments where a strong, visible red accent is required and color fidelity to the Pantone standard is essential. It may look deeper in low-light spaces or on textured surfaces. When specifying or using this color, consider potential finish and sheen impacts as high gloss can increase visual vibrancy, while matte may mute the saturation slightly. PMS 704 C generally maintains its identity better than lighter reds under varied lighting but may require careful lighting design to avoid appearing too dark in indirect light.

Similar colors:

  • PMS 186 C: Similar in chroma and warmth, but slightly lighter and less earthy.
  • PMS 201 C: Darker and more muted, with less chromatic intensity.
  • PMS 1807 C: More muted and brownish, yielding a softer and more subdued appearance.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 704 C

Can Pantone PMS 704 C be cross-referenced to other paint brand color codes?

Pantone PMS 704 C is a unique color standard and does not have a direct cross-reference to other paint brand color codes. Most paint manufacturers create their own color systems, and vivid Pantone hues like PMS 704 C can be especially hard to match exactly using another brand's palette. For brand consistency and correct visual results, it is best to specify and order PMS 704 C by its Pantone code rather than relying on any attempted equivalent from another paint line.

What does it mean to order a paint match for Pantone PMS 704 C?

Ordering a paint match for Pantone PMS 704 C means you are requesting a custom paint that visually matches the standardized Pantone PMS 704 C color target. Pantone codes like PMS 704 C serve as reference standards for visual consistency, but they are not paint formulas or finish specifications. The match is made to appear as close as possible to the Pantone visual reference, allowing for practical differences in paint type, substrate, and finish. Always review finish and application risks for saturated reds like PMS 704 C, as they can affect the final appearance.

How do I order paint matched to Pantone PMS 704 C on MyPerfectColor?

To order a paint matched to Pantone PMS 704 C, start by selecting the PMS 704 C color page. Next, choose the paint type, finish (such as gloss or matte), and package size that best fits your application. Enter the desired quantity and review any format-specific information about coverage or suitability for your project. Confirm all details before placing your order to ensure the match is correct for your brand needs. PMS 704 C is available as custom spray paint and other paint formats for branding and display applications.

When is it recommended to sample Pantone PMS 704 C before a full order?

Sampling Pantone PMS 704 C is recommended for large-scale, high-visibility branding projects, retail displays, or anytime the paint will be applied to new substrates or used under varied lighting. Sampling helps confirm that the chosen finish and substrate combination delivers the intended color result. This is especially important with deep, saturated reds like PMS 704 C, which can appear darker or more intense depending on gloss and lighting conditions. Approving a sample before production reduces risks of costly rework or inconsistent branding.

How quickly will I receive my paint matched to Pantone PMS 704 C?
All paint is custom-made to order. While most orders ship within 48 hours, the lead-time for paint made to match Pantone PMS 704 C depends on the type of paint needed. Can I use the Pantone PMS 704 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 704 C in paint, we don't provide any crossover information.
