PMS 697 C, from the Pantone PMS (Pantone Matching System) collection, is a dark, subdued red with a low reflectance value, giving it a reserved and operational vibe. The color leans warm and slightly earthy, presenting a muted, technical, and grounded appearance suitable for controlled brand expressions. It avoids the brightness or overt vibrancy of more chromatic reds, instead emphasizing subtlety and a sense of professionalism.
PMS 697 C appears dark due to its low light reflectance value (LRV 7.54). The color has a distinctly warm tendency, leaning toward red with muted brownish undertones. Saturation is moderate, less intense than highly chromatic reds but clearly richer than neutrals. The undertone is subtle brown-red, which supports a more understated presentation. The color can be sensitive to finish, with gloss or matte choices influencing perceived depth and warmth.
PMS 697 C is best used where a deep, controlled red is specified for visual consistency in branding, signage, or prototype fabrication. It works well under neutral or warm lighting but may shift in cool or highly reflective environments, so samples should be reviewed under project lighting and finish. Compared to brighter or more saturated reds, PMS 697 C presents fewer risks of color oversaturation but may show surface imperfections more in glossy finishes and can appear even darker on textured substrates.

The finish or sheen you select can noticeably affect how Pantone PMS 697 C looks in real applications. A gloss finish increases perceived saturation and depth, making the dark red appear somewhat richer but may also cause reflections that change how the color is viewed under lighting. Matte finishes, by contrast, absorb more light and may make PMS 697 C seem even darker and more muted. Satin or semi-gloss finishes provide a balance between depth and subtlety. Since PMS 697 C is sensitive to surface and lighting, it's important to review samples in your intended environment and on your actual substrate to ensure the color meets your brand consistency goals.
To order paint matched to Pantone PMS 697 C, start by selecting your desired product format, such as spray paint, paint pen, or brush-in-cap bottle, based on your project's needs. Next, choose the sheen (gloss, satin, or matte) that best aligns with your brand or display requirements. Enter the needed quantity and review any format-specific options. Before finalizing your order, make sure that you are selecting PMS 697 C as specified in your brand guidelines and confirm the format and finish are appropriate for your intended application. If there is uncertainty about appearance on your substrate or under your lighting conditions, consider ordering a sample before committing to a full order.
Pantone PMS 697 C is a deep, subdued red with moderate saturation and a low light reflectance value. Because of its depth, certain substrates or light bases may require an appropriate undercoat to achieve uniform appearance and prevent uneven coverage. Matte and gloss finishes can also influence how consistently PMS 697 C hides the underlying surface. If the substrate is highly contrasting or uneven, an undercoat in a similar hue or a suitable neutral may help achieve consistent results, and multiple coats may be needed for full coverage. Testing a small area before final application is the best way to confirm hide and color performance for brand-facing displays and signage.
Pantone PMS 697 C is specified in brand standards to ensure that visual elements across displays, signage, and environments present a unified color appearance, regardless of material or vendor. Using PMS 697 C helps organizations deliver a recognizable and controlled brand image. Selecting this exact Pantone reference and specifying it in orders allows teams to maintain visual consistency and avoid color mismatches across marketing materials and fabricated components. For best results, always verify that all project elements are matched to PMS 697 C and assess samples under intended conditions before full-scale production.
Unfortunately, no.
Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.
The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 697 C in paint, we don't provide any crossover information. We've found that every paint company offers its own unique selection of colors and rarely does a color have an exact equivalent in another company's color collection, especially for a color collection like Pantone which is designed for bright colors and inks.
