PMS 679 C is part of the Pantone Matching System (PMS) collection, widely used in professional brand and identity projects to ensure color consistency across applications. This color presents a soft, muted, and cool lavender appearance, with a gentle and clean vibe. It is moderate in lightness, neither overwhelmingly bright nor overly dark, and maintains a subdued, non-vivid chromatic impression that supports a restrained and composed visual effect in brand displays and fabricated environments.

PMS 679 C appears as a light lavender, supported by an LRV of 56.68, which indicates moderate reflectance. The color leans cool with purple undertones, providing a subtle, calming effect. PMS 679 C is perceived as softly saturated, lacking the intensity of more vibrant purples. The color’s undertone is a grayish lavender, tempering the purple with a hint of neutrality. PMS 679 C can be sensitive to finish; gloss and matte finishes may shift perceived vibrancy and subtlety.

PMS 679 C works well for applications where a refined and gentle purple is specified, such as brand environments or display elements needing a subdued but recognizable shade. Evaluate the color under intended lighting, as both artificial and natural sources may affect its coolness and muted character. The color’s subtle saturation means it can shift toward gray in shadowy conditions or when applied over non-white substrates, so proper surface preparation and even application are important. When compared to other similar purples, PMS 679 C will generally appear softer, less intense, and cooler, avoiding the brightness or pinkness seen in alternatives.

Similar colors:

PMS 264 C – Slightly lighter and more chromatic; presents a purer lavender with less gray influence.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 679 C

Can I use PMS 679 C paint as a direct equivalent to another brand's lavender color?

PMS 679 C is a specific Pantone color identified by the Pantone Matching System and does not have a directly equivalent color in most other paint brand collections. Paint companies develop their own color palettes, and even visually similar options may differ in undertone, saturation, or appearance under various lights. If maintaining brand accuracy and consistency is critical, it is best to specify PMS 679 C by its Pantone code rather than attempting to cross-reference with a different system.

How does choosing a different sheen affect the appearance of PMS 679 C?

The sheen or finish you select for PMS 679 C can significantly impact how the color is perceived. Higher-gloss finishes tend to make the lavender appear more vibrant and slightly lighter, while matte finishes will mute the color and enhance its subtle, grayish undertones. When selecting a sheen, consider your viewing distance, the substrate, and the intended visual effect for brand displays or fabricated components. Evaluate samples under actual lighting conditions to confirm appearance before finalizing your order.

What should I know about coverage and hide when using PMS 679 C paint?

PMS 679 C is a softly saturated lavender that may require careful application to achieve even coverage, especially over darker or non-white substrates. While it is less intense than some vibrant Pantone colors, its moderate lightness and subtlety mean that additional coats may be needed for uniform opacity and consistent color. For best results and visual brand accuracy, properly prepare the surface and plan for at least two coats, verifying appearance after drying under your target lighting conditions.

Can I use the Pantone PMS 679 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
