PMS 648 C from the Pantone PMS collection serves as a deep, cool, technically strong blue. The color is recognized for its low light reflectance (LRV 2.3), giving it a dense, saturated appearance. It is practical, assertive, and often associated with traditional, institutional, and corporate branding environments where consistency and strong visual identity are priorities.

PMS 648 C appears very dark due to its extremely low light reflectance (LRV 2.3). The color demonstrates a distinctly cool temperature, with a pronounced blue character. PMS 648 C exhibits high chroma for a deep blue, yielding a strong, saturated effect rather than a muted or grayed look. The undertone is clean and cool, creating a professional and stable impression. This color is sensitive to finish: gloss and matte treatments can affect perceived depth and saturation.

PMS 648 C is best used where a strong, uniform dark blue is essential to visual identity, including branded displays, signage, and marketing environments. Due to its depth, it may require careful lighting: in dim or uneven lighting, the color can appear nearly black, while stronger lighting will reveal more of the blue character. Satin and gloss finishes can enhance its richness but may introduce glare, whereas matte finishes reduce reflectance but can dull saturation. Accurate surface preparation is critical to avoid visible flaws, as the dark tone will amplify imperfections relative to lighter or less chromatic colors.

Similar colors:
PMS 654 C: Slightly darker and even more muted, resulting in a nearly black-blue appearance.

PMS 288 C: Lighter and a touch less cool, producing a more vivid blue tone.

PMS 295 C: Similar in darkness but with subtly warmer undertones, offering a more neutral navy feel.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 648 C

Can I match PMS 648 C to another paint brand's color or directly cross-reference it?

PMS 648 C is a Pantone PMS color standard and most paint brands use unique palettes that do not have true one to one correspondence. Cross-referencing PMS 648 C to other brands will rarely result in an exact visual match, especially given the color's strong, saturated blue tone. For projects where brand consistency is critical, always specify PMS 648 C directly and avoid relying on color names or codes from unrelated paint collections.

What is the best way to apply spray paint matched to PMS 648 C to get an even, consistent color?

For PMS 648 C, apply multiple thin coats of spray paint rather than one heavy coat. Allow each layer to dry or 'flash' before adding the next to prevent runs and uneven coverage. This approach improves saturation, helps achieve the deep blue character of PMS 648 C, and reduces the risk of visible streaks or surface imperfections, especially important for such a dark, dense color.

How will lighting affect how PMS 648 C looks in my display or environment?

PMS 648 C can appear nearly black in dim or uneven lighting, but will show more blue intensity under strong, balanced light. Different light sources may shift the perceived color, so always evaluate PMS 648 C in the specific lighting conditions where it will be seen. This helps ensure the finished result aligns with brand expectations and reduces the chance of visual surprises after installation.

How do I order paint matched to PMS 648 C on MyPerfectColor?

To order paint for PMS 648 C, start by choosing your desired paint format, such as spray paint or house paint. Select your preferred sheen, specify quantity, and make sure to review all options before adding to your cart. Confirm that PMS 648 C is the correct Pantone code for your brand requirements before placing the order to avoid costly mistakes or mismatches.

How quickly will I receive my paint matched to Pantone PMS 648 C?
All paint is custom-made to order. While most orders ship within 48 hours, the lead-time for paint made to match Pantone PMS 648 C depends on the type of paint needed. Interior and exterior house paints usually ship within 1 to 3 business days, while custom spray paint typically takes 3-5 business days to ship. The transit time depends on your location and the shipping method you choose. If your need is immediate, select Expedited Production during checkout. Most expedited production orders ship within 24 hours on business days. Please contact MyPerfectColor if you are concerned about a specific deadline. Can I use the Pantone PMS 648 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
