Pantone™ PMS 581 C

PMS 581 C can appear significantly different depending on the lighting where it is viewed. Under cool white or daylight-balanced lighting, the yellow-green base becomes more apparent, while in low-light or warm lighting, the color may seem darker, warmer, or nearly brown. For brand consistency, always evaluate PMS 581 C in the actual lighting conditions where it will be installed. This helps ensure the finished project meets branding expectations and prevents unexpected shifts in appearance that can occur with different light sources.

For PMS 581 C spray paint, apply several light coats rather than one heavy coat to achieve uniform coverage and color. Allow each coat to become tack-free (flash off) before applying the next. This approach reduces the risk of runs or uneven color and helps PMS 581 C reach its intended appearance on the finished piece. Applying too much product at once can obscure the color accuracy or affect finish quality, especially for saturated shades like this earthy olive green.

For PMS 581 C, consistency is best maintained by using the same product type, sheen, and reference target for all orders. Batch-to-batch variation can occur with any custom paint, especially across different finishes or formats. To improve consistency, document your approval process, finish, and substrate for each use. If formal brand approval is needed, evaluate reorders using the same lighting and criteria as the original project.

Surfaces like plastics can vary in how well they hold PMS 581 C paint. Some plastics may require a specialized primer or adhesion promoter to achieve proper bonding between the surface and the paint. Before committing to full production, always test PMS 581 C on your actual plastic part to confirm adhesion and the visual result. This can help prevent issues with peeling or appearance differences on brand and display projects.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
