PMS 574 C is a specification color within the Pantone PMS system, recognized for its low reflectivity and organic, matte-leaning character. The color presents as a very dark, earthy green with a cool undertone, notably understated, grounded, and utilitarian in appearance. It is neither bright nor saturated, instead communicating a sense of technicality, seriousness, and function-driven design.

- PMS 574 C appears very dark due to its low light reflectance value (LRV 6.65). - The color has a cool tendency, influenced by its subdued green-yellow hue. - Saturation is low to moderate, with a restraint that avoids vibrancy. - Undertone is rooted in olive and muted green, sometimes appearing almost brown under certain lighting. - The color is sensitive to finish; gloss may slightly increase the vibrancy, while matte applications amplify its organic, understated effect.

PMS 574 C is most effective where a deep, professional, natural green is warranted—such as in branded environments requiring subdued distinction without attention-seeking brightness. Lighting conditions have a pronounced effect; under mixed lighting, the color may shift towards brown or drab green. For specification-driven projects, always verify the color in the intended finish and actual lighting environment. Surface preparation directly affects coverage uniformity, as the muted character may reveal substrate inconsistencies more readily than brighter colors. Compared to similar dark greens, PMS 574 C is less saturated and more neutral, reducing visual fatigue in large-scale or close-proximity applications.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 574 C

What should I know about matching accuracy for Pantone PMS 574 C paint?

Pantone PMS 574 C is a standardized color reference, but matching it precisely in paint across different materials and finishes always involves some degree of variation. Factors such as substrate type, application method, and lighting can affect how closely the paint aligns visually with the PMS 574 C target. MyPerfectColor uses specialized matching processes to achieve close visual alignment for PMS 574 C, but the match is based on the Pantone reference and actual results may look slightly different on various surfaces or under different lighting. If stringent brand color consistency is critical, sampling is always recommended before proceeding with full production.

When is it a good idea to order a sample of Pantone PMS 574 C paint before doing a full project?

If PMS 574 C will be used on a large, highly visible brand installation, in a permanent retail environment, or anywhere color approval matters to stakeholders, ordering a sample is strongly recommended. This allows you to confirm that PMS 574 C appears correct in your intended lighting, finish, and on your actual substrate. Sampling is especially important if the project will be evaluated under different lighting conditions or if you are coating materials with different base colors.

How do I choose the right paint type for Pantone PMS 574 C on interior versus exterior projects?

To use Pantone PMS 574 C for interior applications, select a suitable format such as spray paint, paint pen, or interior housepaint based on your project needs. For exterior use, make sure to choose a format specifically labeled for exterior durability, such as exterior housepaint or a compatible industrial-grade product. Always confirm material and finish requirements to achieve the most true-to-standard appearance for PMS 574 C in the final environment.

Are there any notable brands or organizations that use Pantone PMS 574 C?

No specific brand, organization, or team associations for Pantone PMS 574 C are provided in the available information. PMS 574 C is commonly specified for brand-driven environments that need a dark, understated, natural green, but unless a particular usage is known and documented, it should be selected based solely on your project''s brand standards and intended visual effect.

Can I use the Pantone PMS 574 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
