PMS 5773 C is a Pantone Matching System (PMS) standard color, recognized as a subdued, slightly cool-leaning olive green with moderate darkness (LRV 30.4) and low-to-medium chroma. It is associated with a calm, technical, natural, and utilitarian vibe. This color is part of the Pantone PMS system, which is used for precise and consistent color communication in brand, display, and industrial applications.

PMS 5773 C presents as a muted, mid-dark olive green. The color has a cool undertone, with a yellow-green hue character and a slightly grayish influence. The chroma level is low to moderate, keeping the appearance understated rather than highly saturated. The light reflectance value (LRV) of 30.4 indicates it sits below mid-range brightness, providing some visual weight. Finish sheen can impact the perceived depth and richness; higher gloss may bring out the green tones, while matte may further mute the color. PMS 5773 C is not highly sensitive to lighting but can appear cooler or more subdued under certain light sources.

PMS 5773 C is suited for branded environments and displays where a restrained, earthy green is needed without strong visual dominance. It works well in backgrounds, wayfinding, and secondary branding elements where subtlety is important. Since it is not intensely chromatic, it pairs effectively with neutrals and more saturated accent colors. Users should test samples in both intended finish and lighting conditions, as lower-chroma greens can shift appearance slightly depending on context. Compared to similar olive greens, PMS 5773 C is characterized by its relatively cool undertone and moderate darkness, making it less prone to visual warmth or brightness shifts.

Similar colors:

  • PMS 5777 C – Slightly darker and more neutral, resulting in greater visual weight.
  • PMS 5777 U – Similar darkness but with a warmer undertone, appearing more yellow than PMS 5773 C.
  • PMS 7494 C – Noticeably lighter and more chromatic, introducing a fresher, higher-key green impression.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 5773 C

Why is Pantone PMS 5773 C not recommended for touch-up work on existing finishes?

Pantone PMS 5773 C is a visual color standard, not a complete specification for sheen, substrate, or application process. Because the Pantone code only defines the color target and not the finish or surface conditions, ordering paint by PMS 5773 C may not match the texture, gloss, or exact look of an existing product. This makes it unsuitable for touch-up applications where a seamless repair is needed. For touch-up or repair of an existing coating, you should work from an original manufacturer standard or a physical sample from the actual surface instead of using the Pantone color standard alone.

What is the best way to apply PMS 5773 C spray paint for an even finish?

For Pantone PMS 5773 C spray paint, it is best to apply several light coats rather than a single heavy coat. Allow each coat to dry until it is no longer tacky before applying the next. This helps achieve a smooth, even finish and reduces the risk of drips or uneven coverage. The process also supports color accuracy, as PMS-matched colors require careful application to maintain consistency with the Pantone standard. Always test your method on a sample piece before starting a full installation.

What should I consider when using Pantone PMS 5773 C in a pop-up or retail environment?

When using PMS 5773 C for pop-up or retail installations, evaluate the durability needs of the display and consider how lighting will affect the color's appearance. It is important to sample the color in the actual environment and finish format before committing to full production, as the final look can shift based on gloss level and light source. You should also select a paint type that suits the surface and expected traffic or handling to maintain visual consistency throughout the event or installation.

Providing this information will help identify the most appropriate product format for your needs, whether you require spray paint, paint pens, or another option. Can I use the Pantone PMS 5773 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
