PMS 514 C is part of the Pantone PMS collection, a standard for brand and display specification. The color presents as a vivid, saturated purple with a distinctly cool, blue-leaning character. The overall vibe is vibrant, contemporary, distinctive, and commanding. With a moderate lightness (LRV 34.05), this color is neither overly dark nor light, supporting legibility and visual impact across a range of marketing and display materials.

- PMS 514 C appears moderately dark, with numeric LRV at 34.05. - The color has a cool tendency, exhibiting a noticeable blue undertone. - Saturation is high, resulting in strong chromatic presence. - The undertone is predominantly blue, contributing to a clean, technical appearance. - The color can exhibit finish sensitivity, with gloss finishes appearing more vivid and matte finishes slightly muted.

PMS 514 C works well for visual brand representation, especially where a distinctive and recognizable purple is required for displays, exhibits, and branded installations. Lighting conditions may noticeably shift the perceived hue, with cool lighting enhancing the blue undertones. Surface preparation should ensure a smooth, even finish for consistent color appearance. Relative to similar dark purples, PMS 514 C maintains stronger chroma and a cooler lean, which can create contrasts against warm or neutral branding palettes.

Similar colors:
PMS 513 C: Slightly lighter and more chromatic, yielding greater vibrancy.

PMS 515 C: Lighter and less saturated, resulting in a softer, pinker appearance.

PMS 2612 C: Darker and less blue, appearing as a deeper, more muted purple.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 514 C

What durability can I expect when using Pantone PMS 514 C spray paint for brand displays?

When using Pantone PMS 514 C as a spray paint for brand displays, durability depends on several factors including surface preparation, environment, and whether a protective topcoat is used. For best results, the substrate should be clean, dry, and properly primed prior to painting. For environments with high exposure to abrasion, moisture, or UV, consider adding a compatible clearcoat for added protection. If long-term wear or outdoor exposure is expected, select a paint system formulated for those specific conditions. Always confirm that your chosen format aligns with your application requirements to achieve both visual impact and longevity.

What should I consider when applying Pantone PMS 514 C paint over metal or powder coated surfaces?

Before applying Pantone PMS 514 C to metal or powder coated surfaces, ensure any existing coatings are clean, lightly scuffed, and free of gloss to maximize adhesion and color uniformity. The condition and sheen of the existing coat can affect how PMS 514 C appears, especially since finish sensitivity is greater with vivid, saturated colors. For critical applications, ordering a sample on your intended surface is recommended to confirm color match and finish before proceeding with full installation.

Can Pantone PMS 514 C be cross-referenced to another paint brand for an exact match?

Pantone PMS 514 C is a proprietary standard unique to Pantone and does not reliably convert to other paint company collections. Most paint brands develop their own color palettes, and vivid Pantone shades like PMS 514 C are rarely found as exact equivalents elsewhere. For brand consistency, it is best to order PMS 514 C by code rather than selecting a cross-referenced color from a different paint company, as appearance differences are likely.

If my project uses Pantone PMS 514 C but I need a precise match for an existing part, what is the best approach?

Pantone PMS 514 C is intended for consistent brand reproduction, not for matching to existing parts for touch-up purposes. If you require a precise match to an existing asset, send a physical part or sample for custom matching rather than ordering a standard PMS 514 C paint. This ensures the result takes into account any surface or finish variations present on the original part.

How quickly will I receive my paint matched to Pantone PMS 514 C?
All paint is custom-made to order. While most orders ship within 48 hours, the lead-time for paint made to match Pantone PMS 514 C depends on the type of paint needed. Interior and exterior house paints usually ship within 1 to 3 business days, while custom spray paint typically takes 3-5 business days to ship. The transit time depends on your location and the shipping method you choose. If your need is immediate, select Expedited Production during checkout. Most expedited production orders ship within 24 hours on business days. Please contact MyPerfectColor if you are concerned about a specific deadline. We do our best to make sure you get your paint on time. Learn more about paint lead times at MyPerfectColor.
Can I use the Pantone PMS 514 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

Most people don't use a primer for a touch up paint application, but a primer may improve adhesion and is typically recommended for exterior applications.
How do I convert PMS 514 C to a different color from another paint company?

While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 514 C in paint, we don't provide any crossover information. We've found that every paint company offers its own unique selection of colors and rarely does a color have an exact equivalent in another company's color collection, especially for a color collection like Pantone which is designed for bright colors and inks.
