PMS 506 C is a standard from the Pantone PMS collection, widely used by professionals needing a technically reliable, color-stable standard across printing, paint, and branded display environments. The color has a subdued, deep, and rich character that conveys seriousness, depth, and formality. Its visual role is frequently described as moody, reserved, substantial, and technical, with a hint of muted warmth driven by its red-violet base.
- PMS 506 C appears very dark due to its low LRV of 6.65.
- The color shows a cool-to-neutral tendency, leaning more toward red-violet than true red.
- This color presents as moderately saturated but is not vivid; it has significant chroma but is tempered by darkness.
- The undertone is driven by muted burgundy and purple, appearing more reserved than many saturated reds or violets.
- The color’s depth and subtlety can make it finish-sensitive, especially under high-gloss or matte selections.
PMS 506 C is appropriate when a project calls for a deep, muted color with a technical or formal character—often for background fields, trim, or branded surfaces where subtlety and visual gravity are required. It can show marked shifts under different lighting conditions (especially warm/cool artificial light), and its darkness may absorb more light than expected, resulting in a lower apparent brightness. Compare finishes in context, as gloss enhances color richness while matte can further subdue its hue. Surface preparation should be thorough, as the color’s darkness may highlight surface imperfections.

For best consistency when reordering PMS 506 C, use the same paint type and sheen as you did previously. Color appearance can change with different finishes or application methods. Always approve the initial result under the same lighting and on the target substrate, then reference that approval for future runs. This approach helps minimize visual differences that can arise from batch-to-batch variation or changes in surface preparation.
Choose a standard PMS 506 C match when your goal is to achieve visual brand alignment on displays, signage, prototypes, or event materials where the Pantone code is specified as the target. This ensures your color matches professionally recognized standards used by marketing teams and brand managers. It is typically appropriate when brand visibility and color consistency are top priorities, especially on new builds or marketing installations.
PMS 506 C is defined by Pantone as a specific color standard, but other paint brands use their own unique color systems. Most brands do not offer direct equivalents, and color formulas can vary. Even small differences in pigment or formulation can result in visible mismatches, especially with deep, muted colors like PMS 506 C. For projects requiring brand accuracy, order using the Pantone reference, not another brand code.
To confirm PMS 506 C meets brand requirements, order a sample in the intended finish and apply it to the actual substrate. Evaluate the color under the lighting conditions where it will be installed, as this deep, muted shade can show noticeable shifts in appearance based on sheen and environment. Having stakeholders sign off on this sample before full production helps avoid costly changes and ensures your final result matches brand expectations.
Unfortunately, no.
Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.
The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

To make spray paint matched to Pantone PMS 506 C. MyPerfectColor uses an acrylic enamel which is a fast-drying durable coating suitable for interior or exterior use. MyPerfectColor custom spray paint enables you to conveniently achieve a professional spray-smooth finish in any color in any sheen. It sticks well to most surfaces including metal, plastics, powder-coatings, cabinets and primed or previously painted wood.

While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 506 C in paint, we don't provide any crossover information. We've found that every paint company offers its own unique selection of colors and rarely does a color have an exact equivalent in another company's color collection, especially for a color collection like Pantone which is designed for bright colors and inks.
