PMS 487 C is part of the Pantone Matching System, categorized as a light, muted pink-beige with a naturally warm, approachable appearance. It is commonly described as soft, neutral, subtle, and calming, with a gentle earthiness that maintains clarity without appearing bold or excessively saturated. The color sits at the intersection of light terracotta and blush, offering versatility for brand and marketing environments that require a subdued yet recognizable hue.

PMS 487 C appears as a light-to-medium tone, with a moderate LRV of 49.89 indicating mid-level reflectance. The color exhibits a distinctly warm tendency, consistent with its placement in the yellow-red family. PMS 487 C presents low-to-moderate chroma, resulting in a subtle and muted saturation. The undertone is classified as pinkish-peach, giving the color a soft, inviting foundation while remaining adaptable to adjacent hues. This color is moderately sensitive to finish and sheen, with glossier surfaces amplifying its warmth and subtle color variations if lighting changes.

PMS 487 C works well in brand and display applications where an understated, welcoming background or accent is required. It is effective in settings that benefit from a gentle presence—such as large-format graphics, retail fixtures, or interactive brand environments—without competing for visual dominance. Monitor lighting carefully, as warm or neutral lighting enhances its earthiness, while cooler lighting can cause the color to appear muted or less vibrant. Compared with similar colors, PMS 487 C retains more pink-beige character and is generally less saturated than stronger coral or orange-based PMS references.

PMS 4745 C – Slightly cooler and more neutral, shifting towards beige with minimal pink influence.

PMS 474 C – Darker and richer, introducing more pronounced orange and brown notes relative to PMS 487 C.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 487 C

Will Pantone PMS 487 C provide full coverage in a single coat?

Pantone PMS 487 C is a light, muted pink-beige with moderate chroma, so coverage is typically mid-range. While not as challenging as highly saturated colors, a uniform appearance may still require more than one coat depending on the substrate and base color. For brand-critical applications, plan for a quality primer and at least two finish coats to achieve consistent color and hide, especially when painting over darker surfaces.

What product formats are available to order Pantone PMS 487 C?

Pantone PMS 487 C can be ordered as custom spray paint, paint pens, brush-in-cap bottles, and various other paint formats suitable for brand and display applications. The best format depends on your project needs. Spray paint is ideal for large, even surfaces or fast application. Paint pens and brush-in-cap bottles work well for smaller areas or details. Availability may depend on your chosen substrate, so review format options when placing your order.

How durable is Pantone PMS 487 C when used as spray paint?

The durability of Pantone PMS 487 C spray paint depends on how well you prepare the surface, your choice of primer, whether you use a protective topcoat, and the exposure conditions. For brand environments where visual impact is critical, be sure to select a paint type matched to your application's needs. Indoor settings with minimal abrasion require less protection, while exterior or high-traffic areas benefit from additional clear topcoats to extend longevity and preserve color.

Is Pantone PMS 487 C the right choice for precise touch-up on existing surfaces?

Pantone PMS 487 C is designed for accurate brand color reproduction in new brand-facing displays and projects. If you need to match existing surfaces for detailed touch-up work, sending a physical part for a custom match is recommended. This ensures the result aligns closely with your specific substrate and finish. Standard Pantone matches are ideal when consistency with the Pantone reference is your primary goal, not for repairing or blending into existing finishes.

How quickly will I receive my paint matched to Pantone PMS 487 C?
All paint is custom-made to order. While most orders ship within 48 hours, the lead-time for paint made to match Pantone PMS 487 C depends on the type of paint needed. Interior and exterior house paints usually ship within 1 to 3 business days, while custom spray paint typically takes 3-5 business days to ship. The transit time depends on your location and the shipping method you choose. If your need is immediate, select Expedited Production during checkout. Most expedited production orders ship within 24 hours on business days. Please contact MyPerfectColor if you are concerned about a specific deadline. Can I use the Pantone PMS 487 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
