PMS 474 C is part of the Pantone Matching System (PMS), widely used in brand identity and specification workflows. This color exhibits a distinctly soft, light beige appearance with understated, natural, and muted characteristics. The overall vibe is approachable, grounded, subtle, and adaptable, making it suitable for visibility without strong visual dominance. The color's lightness and gentle saturation promote a clean, professional look that supports secondary or background branding elements.

PMS 474 C appears as a light neutral with an LRV of 62.16. The color has a warm, slightly yellow undertone. It exhibits a low to moderate level of chroma, resulting in a muted saturation. The hue angle suggests a position between yellow and warm tan. The color's appearance can be sensitive to finish; higher sheen may increase reflectivity and perceived brightness. It generally reads as soft and non-intrusive in most lighting conditions.

PMS 474 C works effectively where soft, subtle branding or muted backgrounds are needed, such as in large-scale graphics, brand installations, or prototypes that avoid overpowering primary brand colors. Care should be taken with finish selection, as gloss or satin may brighten the color, while matte will emphasize its muted qualities. Inconsistent substrate color or poor surface preparation can increase the risk of unevenness due to its light value and low chroma. Compared to deeper or more saturated brand colors, PMS 474 C will recede visually and minimize color interference, supporting clear hierarchy in branded environments.

Similar colors:

PMS 475 C – Similar but lighter and more yellow, resulting in a paler, more subdued effect.

PMS 473 C – Similar but slightly darker and warmer, giving a richer beige impression.

PMS 468 C – A bit cooler and more muted, trending toward a subtle grey-beige.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 474 C

What is the best way to compare samples of Pantone PMS 474 C for color approval?

For Pantone PMS 474 C, compare samples under the same lighting conditions and on the same type of substrate you will use in your project. Allow all coatings to fully dry and, if required, cure before making a final approval decision. Light, muted colors like PMS 474 C can show visible differences based on substrate color and gloss, so consistent comparison conditions are important to avoid unexpected results in branding or display applications.

Does PMS 474 C require a specific undercoat or multiple coats for the best coverage?

PMS 474 C is a light, muted color with a low- to moderate-level of chroma, so uniform coverage can be affected by surface preparation and the underlying color of the substrate. For best results, apply PMS 474 C over a white or light-toned primer to ensure the intended appearance and reduce the risk of unevenness. Lighter colors may need two or more coats for consistent, brand-accurate results, especially if applied over darker surfaces.

How is Pantone PMS 474 C used in sign, display, and exhibit fabrication?

Pantone PMS 474 C is often specified as a standard target in branding for signage, displays, and exhibit elements to achieve consistent brand recognition. Accurate color reproduction is essential for these applications, so it is recommended to produce a sample of PMS 474 C on the actual material and finish being used. This helps confirm that the appearance meets expectations in real-world installation lighting and avoids miscommunication later in the fabrication or approval process.

What should I know about shipping times when ordering PMS 474 C paint for a project?

Shipping and transit time for Pantone PMS 474 C paint depend on your location and the shipping method you select at checkout. Production time may also vary based on order volume and format. If you have a fixed installation, marketing, or fabrication deadline, it is best to place your order early and allow for both production and transit time to avoid last-minute delays.

How quickly will I receive my paint matched to Pantone PMS 474 C?
All paint is custom-made to order. While most orders ship within 48 hours, the lead-time for paint made to match Pantone PMS 474 C depends on the type of paint needed. Interior and exterior house paints usually ship within 1 to 3 business days, while custom spray paint typically takes 3-5 business days to ship. The transit time depends on your location and the shipping method you choose. If your need is immediate, select Expedited Production during checkout. Most expedited production orders ship within 24 hours on business days. Please contact MyPerfectColor if you are concerned about a specific deadline. We do our best to make sure you get your paint on time. Learn more about paint lead times at MyPerfectColor.
Can I use the Pantone PMS 474 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
