PMS 484 C is a strong, earthy red belonging to the Pantone PMS (Pantone Matching System) collection. This color is recognized for its grounded, assertive, and warm vibe, making it practical in applications requiring a substantial visual anchor. Its robust, brick-like appearance delivers a technical and dependable impression, aligning with design goals that emphasize visibility, stability, and warmth.

PMS 484 C presents as a distinctly dark color with a low light reflectance value (LRV 9.54). The color conveys a warm tendency, with a red-brown base and subtle orange undertones. The saturation level is high, resulting in a bold and visually substantive effect. The undertone can appear slightly orange in direct light, enhancing the color’s warmth. This color’s perception can shift with finish; higher gloss may intensify richness, while flatter finishes can make the shade appear more muted.

PMS 484 C is frequently specified for retail and hospitality branding elements that require a bold, grounded hue. The color is often used in environmental graphics and wayfinding in built environments for a confident, lasting impact.

PMS 484 C is most effective when a memorable, assertive color presence is needed for branding, signage, or environmental applications. It performs well on large surfaces and dimensional elements where warmth and boldness reinforce the visual identity. When specifying this color, be attentive to lighting conditions, as warm or cool lighting will influence perceived undertones and depth. Highly saturated reds such as PMS 484 C may require additional coats to achieve uniform coverage, especially over light or strongly contrasting surfaces. Surface preparation and finish selection can noticeably impact color consistency and appearance compared to similar, less saturated or less warm shades.

PMS 1797 C – Richer red, less earthy, giving a brighter and more vivid impression than PMS 484 C.

PMS 484 U – The uncoated equivalent, typically displaying as softer and more muted due to lack of gloss.

PMS 483 C – More subdued and brownish, resulting in a less saturated, more neutral earth tone.

Does Pantone PMS 484 C paint require extra coats for full coverage?

Pantone PMS 484 C is a highly saturated, bold red. For many applications, especially over light or contrasting surfaces, you may need additional coats to achieve an even, opaque finish. Testing on your intended substrate is recommended. How do I order Pantone PMS 484 C paint on MyPerfectColor?

To order Pantone PMS 484 C on MyPerfectColor, select the color from the Pantone PMS collection. Then choose your preferred paint type, sheen, and quantity. Double-check your selections before placing the order to ensure you get accurate color results for your branding or display project.

Why is it important that Pantone PMS 484 C paint is matched under Pantone license?

Pantone PMS 484 C is a standardized, licensed Pantone color. Ordering from a source authorized to reproduce Pantone PMS colors, like MyPerfectColor, helps ensure your paint is matched to the correct color reference. This is essential for projects where brand consistency and visual accuracy matter across different substrates and applications.

How should I use Pantone PMS 484 C samples in a brand approval process?

For brand approval workflows involving Pantone PMS 484 C, it is best practice to order a sample in the intended product format. Can I use the Pantone PMS 484 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
