PMS 1805 C from the Pantone PMS collection is a vivid, saturated red with a strong, assertive appearance. This color is viewed as bold, energetic, and technical, often used in visual communication where clarity and presence are prioritized. It projects a grounded yet lively impression suitable for environments demanding instant recognition and consistency.

PMS 1805 C appears dark, with a low reflectance (LRV 11.25) indicating limited lightness. The color has a warm tendency, with undertones that lean toward orange or brown rather than blue or berry. The saturation level is high, leading to a very vibrant, fully chromatic presentation when rendered accurately. The undertone of PMS 1805 C reads as a rich, almost brick-like red, providing some depth and complexity. The color’s finish sensitivity is moderate; glossier finishes can intensify its vibrancy, while matte finishes may produce a more muted effect.

PMS 1805 C works especially well for branded elements where a deep, solid red communicates urgency, durability, or boldness. It is effective in differentiated signage, exhibits, or experiential branding where color accuracy is critical. When specifying this color, be aware that deep reds can shift appearance under different lighting (e.g., they may look slightly muted under cool fluorescent lights), and saturation can be affected by surface texture and finish. This color offers more visual density and presence than lighter or less chromatic reds, but care should be taken with coverage as high-chroma reds sometimes require additional coats for full depth.

Similar colors:
PMS 1795 C is lighter and slightly more orange, appearing bolder but less dense than PMS 1805 C.

PMS 1807 C is slightly darker and less saturated, reading as a brownish red with less visual intensity than PMS 1805 C.

PMS 485 C is much brighter and more vivid, with a cleaner, more primary red appearance compared to the deep character of PMS 1805 C.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 1805 C

How is PMS 1805 C used for sign, display, and exhibit fabrication projects?

PMS 1805 C is often specified in sign, display, and exhibit fabrication as a brand-standard red that delivers strong visual impact and consistency across elements. When a client or standard requires PMS 1805 C, it sets an exact color target so all parties can align visually, even when using different production methods or materials. To reduce risk, always test PMS 1805 C on the real substrate and with the intended finish before full fabrication, as appearance can shift based on gloss, surface texture, and lighting. This process helps ensure final brand compliance and avoids rejection due to unexpected color shifts.

What should I consider when applying PMS 1805 C to metal or powder-coated parts?

When matching PMS 1805 C on metal or powder-coated parts, surface preparation is critical. Existing coatings, gloss levels, and any residue can affect the final color appearance and coverage. Scuffing and thoroughly cleaning the surface improves paint adhesion and uniformity. Highly saturated reds like PMS 1805 C may require extra coats for full coverage, especially over uneven or non-white surfaces. Always sample PMS 1805 C on the actual part or a duplicate material before proceeding with the entire order, as the finish and underlying surface can cause noticeable color shifts compared to the standard reference.

How do I ensure PMS 1805 C performs well in a pop-up or retail environment?

PMS 1805 C is well suited to brand experiences in pop-ups or retail settings where vivid, consistent color is a priority. For best results, evaluate a sample of PMS 1805 C under the actual lighting conditions found in the retail environment, as deep reds can appear muted or shift in cool fluorescent light. Consider the foot traffic and cleaning needs to choose a paint format and finish that will withstand real-world use. Sampling before a full rollout helps confirm brand alignment and identifies any needed adjustments for durability or impact.

How do I choose the best paint type for PMS 1805 C for interior versus exterior use?

To select the right paint type for PMS 1805 C, consider whether the application is indoors or outdoors and what performance is needed. For indoor displays and protected environments, standard interior or display paints for PMS 1805 C are appropriate and provide bright, vivid color. If PMS 1805 C will be used outdoors or exposed to weather, choose exterior-grade paints or coatings formulated for UV and moisture resistance to maintain color accuracy and finish integrity over time. Always confirm compatibility with the substrate before full application.

Can I use the Pantone PMS 1805 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
