PMS 1797 C from the Pantone PMS collection is a bold, vivid red with a strong presence. This color is frequently described as assertive, impactful, modern, and energetic, and is often associated with a sense of urgency and brand distinctiveness. It is formulated for use where precise, standardized color reproduction is needed in marketing and brand communications.
PMS 1797 C appears dark relative to other reds, with a low to moderate light reflectance value (LRV 15.27). The color is warm in tone, with a pronounced orange undertone visible in most lighting conditions. This color exhibits high saturation and chroma, making it visually prominent and attention-grabbing. PMS 1797 C’s undertone reads as an assertive, slightly orange-tinted red, especially under daylight or neutral lighting. The noticeable depth and strength of PMS 1797 C means that finish and sheen (e.g., matte vs. gloss) can have a significant effect on perceived brightness and saturation. Care should be exercised in finish selection, as higher-gloss sheens may increase vibrancy, while matte finishes may soften the visual impact.
PMS 1797 C is widely cited as a specification color for branding elements such as retail signage, corporate environments, and display graphics. The color is frequently referenced in marketing materials and brand standards documents for conveying a bold, urgent visual identity.
PMS 1797 C is well-suited to brand-critical projects that require a consistent and visually dominant red. When used on three-dimensional surfaces or in large fields, it commands attention and helps unify displays to brand standards. Expect moderate coverage due to the saturated pigmentation; additional coats may be necessary on light or uneven substrates. Successful deployment depends on evaluating this color in the target finish and lighting, as both factors can change its perceived warmth and brightness compared to digital or small-swatch references. When substituting for other similar reds, 1797 C typically appears deeper and more orange, showing greater visual impact and less neutrality.
This Pantone PMS color is defined by the Pantone Matching System standard. Evaluate the color using a physical Pantone reference and a real paint sample in the intended lighting and finish. Paint appearance varies by finish and lighting.

PMS 1797 C is a vivid, saturated red, and its appearance can shift noticeably depending on the lighting. This color's warmth and depth may look stronger in daylight or with neutral lighting, while appearing deeper or more orange under other sources. To ensure PMS 1797 C meets your expectations for brand consistency, always evaluate the color in the final installation environment and lighting. This reduces surprises and helps achieve reliable, brand-standard results.
PMS 1797 C is best used as a brand color spec for new displays, signage, prototypes, and marketing environments where the Pantone reference is the standard. If you need to align finish and aging to an existing part, especially for touch-up purposes, Pantone-based paint alone may not deliver a close enough match. For situations needing touch-up-grade precision, send a physical part for a custom match to ensure the paint aligns properly with the original surface.
When approving PMS 1797 C for a brand or display application, make all comparisons in consistent lighting, and on the same substrate finish as the final use. Allow all coatings to fully dry and cure before judging color, since appearance can shift as paint dries. Using a physical Pantone reference swatch with the real paint sample in the intended lighting helps ensure accurate decisions and avoids mismatches in brand presentation.
As a highly saturated red, PMS 1797 C may deliver only moderate hide, particularly over light or uneven substrates. Plan on additional coats to achieve a uniform color field, especially for larger or brand-visible surfaces. Using an undercoat or primer matched for reds can enhance coverage and give more consistent results. Evaluating a sample on your exact substrate helps determine the best approach for your project.
Unfortunately, no.
Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.
The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
