Pantone™ PMS 460 C

Pantone PMS 460 C is identified by a standard color code within the Pantone Matching System, which defines the target hue but does not specify substrate, sheen, or original coating conditions. Because finishes and application processes can vary, matching PMS 460 C directly to an existing finish rarely produces a seamless result. For touch-up of manufactured products or previous coatings, exact surface conditions and gloss level must be controlled, but Pantone does not define these parameters. This means Pantone PMS 460 C should not be used as a touch-up or repair target for previously coated items.

The need for a primer under Pantone PMS 460 C paint depends on the substrate, the type of paint chosen, and the exposure conditions. Bare, porous, or glossy surfaces typically require a suitable primer to ensure good adhesion and to achieve an even color appearance. If you are painting over a dark or stained surface with a light color like PMS 460 C, a primer can help with coverage. For specific primer recommendations, review the technical guidance for your selected paint type or consult your project requirements.

To avoid errors when ordering, always reference both the Pantone code and the color name, such as 'PMS 460 C' or 'Pantone 460 C.' Pantone codes are standardized identifiers that ensure you are specifying the intended color target. If your project requires a specific finish or application, also note any relevant format or gloss details. Do not rely on similar naming or generic yellow-green descriptions, as this may lead to the wrong product being supplied.

For brand-facing applications with Pantone PMS 460 C spray paint, apply multiple light coats instead of one heavy coat. Allow sufficient drying or flash time between each coat, as this produces a smoother, more even finish and minimizes the risk of runs. Following this process helps you achieve a clean, brand-consistent color presentation and allows the true character of PMS 460 C to appear as intended.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
