Pantone™ PMS 585 C

PMS 585 C is a standardized Pantone color and does not have an exact equivalent in other paint company collections. Each paint brand creates unique color palettes and formulas. Because of this, cross-referencing PMS 585 C to other brands is rarely precise, especially for vivid or bright Pantone colors. If brand consistency or accurate visual representation is important, always specify PMS 585 C directly and avoid using cross-reference charts.

Ordering a standard PMS 585 C match is recommended when the project involves branding, marketing displays, trade show exhibits, or prototypes where the Pantone reference color is the intended visual standard. This approach is appropriate for temporary environments, retail fixtures, or signage where the goal is to achieve brand-aligned results efficiently and visual match to the Pantone specification is your primary requirement. For high-profile or permanent installations, consider evaluating a sample first, especially if your brand approval workflow requires visual confirmation under specific lighting.

PMS 585 C is a light, saturated yellow-green, which means it may require more coats to achieve full, even coverage compared to deeper or less vivid colors. Highly pigmented or bright colors like PMS 585 C tend to have lower hide strength, so plan for additional coats and ensure the surface is smooth and properly primed. These steps help achieve color solidity and reduce the appearance of streaking or unevenness, particularly over contrasting backgrounds.

For the best results with PMS 585 C on metal or pre-finished powder-coated parts, thoroughly clean and scuff the surface before painting. Gloss level, texture, and any residual coatings can impact the way PMS 585 C appears. Uneven or glossy surfaces can affect coverage and color perception, so a test sample is recommended to confirm appearance before proceeding with the full project.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

The 11oz spray will cover about 20 square feet per coat. Keep in mind that it is difficult to gauge how much spray you'll need as it is highly dependent on how it is applied. It is better to have too much than run short.
