PMS 4495 C is part of the Pantone Matching System (PMS), a globally recognized standard for brand and color specification. This color presents a subdued, organic character with an earthy and grounded appearance. Its vibe is often described as muted, natural, utilitarian, restrained, and understated. PMS 4495 C is selected when a subtle, unobtrusive green-brown is needed to support wayfinding, signage, or environmentally conscious branding.

- PMS 4495 C has a relatively low light reflectance value (LRV 16.02), making it quite dark in appearance.

- The color exhibits a clear cool-warm balance but leans slightly warm due to its brown-green undertone.

- PMS 4495 C is moderately saturated, offering a distinct color presence without high chromatic intensity.

- The undertone is an earthy olive, giving it a natural, utilitarian quality.

- This color's appearance is moderately sensitive to finish choice; glossier finishes may make the color appear slightly deeper and richer, while matte finishes will emphasize its subdued, muted qualities.

PMS 4495 C works well in projects requiring a subtle, naturalistic color that supports rather than dominates visual communication. It is commonly chosen for corporate, institutional, or exhibition contexts where an understated, professional tone is desired. Consistency and color accuracy are strongly influenced by lighting and finish, so physical sampling under intended viewing conditions is recommended. PMS 4495 C will read more olive or brown depending on adjacent colors and materials; use caution with surrounding neutrals to avoid unintended color shifts.

Similar colors:

  • PMS 450 C: Slightly lighter and less muted, with a warmer, more yellow-green tone.
  • PMS 4485 C: Darker, with a stronger brown undertone and more neutral appearance.
  • PMS 7744 C: Noticeably more chromatic and vibrant, with a greener cast.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 4495 C

Why is PMS 4495 C not recommended as a reference for touch-up on existing finishes?

PMS 4495 C is a Pantone color standard designed for brand and marketing consistency, not for matching existing product coatings. Pantone codes specify only the color target, without defining sheen, substrate, or application method. If you try to use PMS 4495 C as a touch-up reference, there is a high risk that the result will not visually blend with existing surfaces due to differences in finish or previous material. For reliable results when working with an existing product or coating, a custom match to the actual material is recommended.

When is it correct to order PMS 4495 C as a standard Pantone match?

Ordering PMS 4495 C as a standard Pantone match is correct when your project requires a consistent, recognizable color based directly on the Pantone reference. This is common for display fabrication, marketing installations, exhibit components, prototypes, and branded environments where the goal is to align with graphic standards. Use a standard Pantone match when the visual target is the Pantone color itself rather than matching an existing finish on a specific substrate.

How does surface texture affect the appearance of the PMS 4495 C color?

Surface texture can change how PMS 4495 C is perceived by influencing light reflection and shadowing. On smoother, glossier surfaces the color may appear a bit deeper and richer, while matte or textured finishes will emphasize its muted, earthy quality and make it look slightly lighter or less saturated. Always evaluate PMS 4495 C samples on the intended substrate and finish to confirm you are getting the desired visual effect for your project.

What basic prep steps should I take before applying paint matched to PMS 4495 C?

Good surface preparation is essential for consistent results with PMS 4495 C. Start by cleaning the surface to remove dust, oils, or residues. Degrease if needed. For most applications, lightly scuff glossy or smooth surfaces to promote adhesion. Always allow the surface to dry fully. Before full application, do a small test spot to confirm adhesion and appearance under your lighting. Following these steps supports durable and visually consistent results.

Can I use the Pantone PMS 4495 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
