PMS 450 C is part of the Pantone Matching System (PMS) color collection. It presents as a deep, muted olive green with a subdued and utilitarian character. This color conveys practical, reserved, and understated qualities, often contributing a grounded or technical vibe in settings where brand color accuracy is essential.
PMS 450 C appears very dark, with a low light reflectance value (LRV) of 6.65. The color has a distinctly cool, earthy undertone, leaning towards an olive or khaki green. PMS 450 C shows low to moderate chroma, resulting in a muted and desaturated look. The undertone is complex, combining elements of green and brown, which can be further subdued in lower or artificial lighting. The appearance of PMS 450 C can be sensitive to changes in gloss or finish; higher sheen may impart a slight yellow-green emphasis, while matte finishes enhance its muted depth.
PMS 450 C is operationally useful when a muted, discreet green is required for brand, exhibit, or prototype applications. It is suited to environments where an understated, utilitarian appearance is desired and where excess reflectance or vivid color is not appropriate. Care should be taken with lighting and finish, as the olive character can shift subtly based on ambient light and sheen. When compared to similar PMS greens, PMS 450 C is less saturated and more grounded, lacking the vibrancy of lighter or purer hues.
Similar colors:
PMS 448 C: Similar in darkness but slightly browner and less green for an even more neutral look.
PMS 451 C: Lighter and less muted; provides a softer, warmer olive tone when less depth is required.
PMS 5535 C: Noticeably darker and deeper, with more black and less yellow, for a cooler and more forest-like effect.

When you order paint matched to PMS 450 C, you are specifying a color based on the standardized Pantone Matching System reference. This ensures that the target color is PMS 450 C as defined by the visual Pantone standard, not by a proprietary formula or manufacturing process. It does not specify a particular coating chemistry, application method, or finish. The final appearance of PMS 450 C in paint can vary depending on product type, finish, substrate, and lighting. Always review product specifications and samples if exact visual alignment is critical to your application.
For projects where brand accuracy is essential, it is best to order a small sample of PMS 450 C in your desired format and finish. Evaluate the sample on the actual substrate and under the lighting conditions where the final project will be seen. This allows stakeholders to confirm that PMS 450 C appears as expected before committing to large quantities. Sampling is especially important for high-visibility installations, multi-material environments, or when color critical decisions affect brand consistency.
The choice between matte and gloss for PMS 450 C depends on the desired visual impact and the viewing environment. Matte finishes reduce glare and create a more subdued, utilitarian look, enhancing the muted qualities of PMS 450 C. Gloss finishes increase reflectance, making the color appear slightly more vibrant or yellow-green. Consider the amount of ambient light, expected viewing distance, and any brand standards regarding finish. Sampling both options is recommended if there is uncertainty about how finish will affect the color's appearance in your display or installation.
PMS 450 C is a standardized Pantone color chosen to create a recognizable and unified visual identity in brand, marketing, and display environments. Using the specific PMS 450 C code across various materials and sites helps ensure visual alignment, even when projects involve different vendors or production methods. Specifying PMS 450 C communicates a clear target for color reproduction, supporting consistent brand experiences across all elements of a campaign or environment.
Unfortunately, no.
Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.
The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
