PMS 4485 C is a standardized color from the Pantone Matching System collection, widely referenced for roles demanding a grounded, muted, and utilitarian demeanor. The overall vibe of this color is subdued, earthy, technical, and durable, conveying a sense of practicality and understated presence. Its specific hue provides a strong, stable visual reference for applications where assertive branding or overt vibrancy is not desired.

PMS 4485 C is very dark in appearance (low LRV at 7.09). The color presents a strong warm tendency, dominated by a muted olive-brown hue. Saturation is low to moderate, contributing to a utilitarian, earthy effect rather than vividness. The undertone is deeply brown with khaki and olive notes, minimizing risk of color shift toward green or yellow under standard lighting. This color can be sensitive to finish; gloss may increase the presence of brown tones, while matte or eggshell finishes enhance its muted, earthy qualities.

PMS 4485 C works well in contexts that require a deliberate, non-reflective, and subdued color effect such as industrial, display, or architectural projects where visual distraction must be minimized. When using this color, be mindful of the finish; higher sheen can subtly shift the perception of depth and undertone, while low sheens support its intended muted character. Due to its very low light reflectance, ensure surfaces are well-prepared to avoid showing imperfections, and evaluate under intended lighting to confirm it meets appearance goals relative to similar drab or olive-brown tones.

Similar colors:
PMS 7497 C: Similar muted olive but appears lighter and slightly more yellow-green.

PMS 7533 C: Dark brown tone that is less olive and has a richer, earthier brown undertone.

PMS 446 C: Cool, dark grey-green with more neutrality and less brown presence.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 4485 C

What does it mean to order PMS 4485 C as a paint match?

Ordering PMS 4485 C as a paint match means you are requesting a coating that visually matches the standardized Pantone PMS 4485 C color reference. Pantone PMS codes identify target colors for consistent reproduction across different vendors and materials. This does not specify a particular paint formula, pigment, manufacturing process, or finish. The match aims for visual alignment with the Pantone reference under standard conditions, and factors such as finish, sheen, and substrate can affect final appearance. This approach is intended for branded displays or prototype uses, not for touch-up or repair of existing systems.

Which product formats are available if I need PMS 4485 C for my project?

PMS 4485 C can be provided in various formats designed for visual brand accuracy and marketing applications. Common options include custom spray paint, paint pens, brush-in-cap bottles, as well as other coatings like interior or exterior housepaint, epoxy, and urethane where suitable. Choose the format that best fits your application needs, such as spray paint for displays and signage or paint pens for detailed work. Each format is formulated to approximate PMS 4485 C as closely as possible for branded and prototype uses.

What should I consider when using PMS 4485 C in a pop-up or retail environment?

When specifying PMS 4485 C for pop-ups or retail settings, it is important to evaluate the color under the intended lighting conditions, as lighting can strongly influence the appearance and brand consistency. Also, consider the expected wear and exposure, and select a product format with durability suited for high-traffic public areas. Before full-scale rollout, sample the color on the actual substrate in your environment to ensure it meets your visual goals. Surface preparation and finish can affect both color perception and the professional look of the installation.

What is the best way to apply PMS 4485 C spray paint to get a consistent finish?

For PMS 4485 C spray paint, apply several thin coats instead of one heavy coat to achieve even coverage and color accuracy. Allow adequate drying time between coats as recommended on the product label. This approach helps avoid runs and ensures the characteristic muted, earthy effect of PMS 4485 C is maintained. Proper surface preparation and careful application contribute to a more brand-consistent and professional finish.

Can I use the Pantone PMS 4485 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
