PMS 436 C from the Pantone Matching System is a subdued, cool-leaning color characterized by middle-value depth and restrained chromatic intensity. Its vibe is understated, sophisticated, neutral, technical, and calming, making it well suited for projects requiring a balanced, unobtrusive visual presence. This color is most frequently specified in environments where subtlety and reliable, professional tonality are critical.

PMS 436 C appears as a medium-light shade, with an LRV of 40.75 indicating moderate light reflectance. The color has a cool temperature, with a muted mauve-gray undertone. PMS 436 C maintains low chroma, resulting in low saturation and a soft, neutral appearance. Undertones in PMS 436 C are cool and slightly lavender-tinged, lending the color a subdued, technical quality. The appearance of PMS 436 C is sensitive to finish; gloss or satin sheens will emphasize its cool neutral qualities, while matte finishes may render it more muted and powdery.

PMS 436 C works well in visual identities or brand displays where a restrained and technical impression is desired without the starkness of pure gray or the distraction of stronger hues. Accurate evaluation under project lighting is recommended as indirect, cool, or blue-biased illumination can amplify both its subtle purple undertone and overall coolness. Compared to other neutral mid-tones, PMS 436 C consistently feels cooler and less saturated, minimizing the risk of the color appearing too warm or beige on most substrates. Surface preparation should be consistent to prevent variable reflectance, particularly in gloss or semi-gloss applications.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 436 C

What challenges should I expect when specifying Pantone PMS 436 C for brand displays, and how does MyPerfectColor manage color match accuracy?

Pantone PMS 436 C is a defined reference color, but precise matching can be challenging due to differences in substrates, finishes, and lighting. While PMS 436 C is more subtle than vivid colors, you may still notice appearance shifts based on surface texture and sheen. MyPerfectColor formulates paint to meet the PMS 436 C target as closely as possible in each format, but we strongly recommend reviewing a sample under your project lighting, especially for critical brand-facing work or across multiple materials. This approach helps ensure you achieve the expected effect and brand consistency for your displays or fabrication.

Where can I find the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for paint made in Pantone PMS 436 C?

The SDS for paint matched to Pantone PMS 436 C is determined by the specific paint type or product, not the color code itself. To obtain the correct SDS, select the paint format you are ordering and check the product details or SDS library. MyPerfectColor provides SDS documents for each available product type, so be sure to reference the one that matches your chosen format for PMS 436 C.

How should I approach using Pantone PMS 436 C in prototypes or concept models for visual brand alignment?

PMS 436 C is frequently specified in prototypes or models requiring visual brand cohesion. Select a paint format that matches your project substrate and review the color under your intended lighting conditions. For accurate brand representation, consider ordering a sample or test panel in the same finish you plan to use. This will help you evaluate how PMS 436 C appears on your material, which is important for approval or downstream production planning. Spray paint or other custom formats are available for prototyping and design workflows.

How much surface area will one spray can of Pantone PMS 436 C cover, and how do I estimate the amount needed?

Each spray can of PMS 436 C covers about 20 to 25 square feet per coat on a smooth, primed surface. Total coverage depends on surface condition, texture, and the number of coats required for uniform appearance. For best results, calculate your project's total square footage and plan for multiple coats, especially if a consistent, brand-accurate finish is critical. Adjust your order if applying PMS 436 C to porous or irregular substrates, as these may require additional product for even color.

How quickly will I receive my paint matched to Pantone PMS 436 C?
All paint is custom-made to order. While most orders ship within 48 hours, the lead-time for paint made to match Pantone PMS 436 C depends on the type of paint needed. Interior and exterior house paints usually ship within 1 to 3 business days, while custom spray paint typically takes 3-5 business days to ship. The transit time depends on your location and the shipping method you choose. If your need is immediate, select Expedited Production during checkout. Most expedited production orders ship within 24 hours on business days. Please contact MyPerfectColor if you are concerned about a specific deadline. We do our best to make sure you get your paint on time. Learn more about paint lead times at MyPerfectColor.
Can I use the Pantone PMS 436 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

How much area will one spray can cover? And what is Pantone PMS 436 C spray paint made of?

To make spray paint matched to Pantone PMS 436 C. MyPerfectColor uses an acrylic enamel which is a fast-drying durable coating suitable for interior or exterior use. MyPerfectColor custom spray paint enables you to conveniently achieve a professional spray-smooth finish in any color in any sheen. See our Primer Selection Table to see what primer you might need and learn more about when you might need a primer. Most people don't use a primer for a touch up paint application, but a primer may improve adhesion and is typically recommended for exterior applications.
How do I convert PMS 436 C to a different color from another paint company?

While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 436 C in paint, we don't provide any crossover information. We've found that every paint company offers its own unique selection of colors and rarely does a color have an exact equivalent in another company's color collection, especially for a color collection like Pantone which is designed for bright colors and inks.
