PMS 430 C is a Pantone PMS system color known for its medium-light, cool gray character. The color has a practical, understated, and businesslike vibe often associated with reliability, neutrality, and technical precision. As part of the Pantone Matching System, PMS 430 C serves as a benchmark for consistent gray reproduction across visual materials, especially where controlled and repeatable results are emphasized.
PMS 430 C appears as a mid-range gray, with a moderate lightness (LRV 27.03) supporting visibility without being overly bright. The color has a cool undertone, trending towards a blue-cast gray rather than a warm or brown-leaning gray. PMS 430 C exhibits low to medium saturation, resulting in a subdued and restrained appearance. The undertone can emphasize blue hues especially under certain lighting conditions or when placed adjacent to warmer colors. This color may show slight shifts in undertone depending on surface gloss level; glossier finishes can make the coolness more pronounced.
PMS 430 C is commonly referenced in brand guidelines for corporate identity programs where a neutral yet distinctive gray is required. This color is often used for backgrounds, secondary brand elements, and signage where readability and neutrality need to be maintained in diverse lighting conditions. PMS 430 C is frequently specified for industrial design components and trade show environments where clean, technical color standards are valued.
PMS 430 C works well in environments and projects that benefit from a professional, technical, or contemporary look. It is especially effective where color neutrality is important, minimizing color cast when placed next to saturated hues or other branding elements. Care should be taken to evaluate this gray under actual lighting conditions, as cool grays can shift noticeably with ambient light and finish selection. Compared to lighter or darker grays, PMS 430 C balances visibility with subtlety, but may appear cooler on smooth/glossy surfaces and in cooler ambient light.
This Pantone PMS color is defined by the Pantone Matching System standard. Evaluate the color using a physical Pantone reference and a real paint sample in the intended lighting and finish. Paint appearance varies by finish and lighting.

The finish you choose for Pantone PMS 430 C can greatly influence how the color is perceived. A glossier finish, such as gloss or semigloss, tends to enhance the blue undertones of PMS 430 C and can make the color look cooler and brighter, especially under direct lighting. Matte and satin finishes may reduce reflections, making the gray appear softer and slightly more muted. Because PMS 430 C is a mid-tone cool gray, these finish differences can impact its visual neutrality and consistency across branded elements. Always review a sample of PMS 430 C in the intended finish and lighting to confirm the effect before finalizing large-scale projects.
To maintain a consistent look of Pantone PMS 430 C across large surfaces, use the same product batch and application method for the entire area. Plan for complete coverage with even, overlapping passes and allow proper drying between coats. PMS 430 C is a mid-range gray, so any unevenness in coverage or finish will be noticeable, especially under strong lighting. Avoid patching or spot recoating, as this may lead to visible differences in sheen or tone. Sampling on your substrate and practicing your technique first can help ensure the finished area presents a smooth, brand-consistent color.
Pantone PMS 430 C is often chosen for signs, displays, and exhibits because it is a standardized, neutral gray defined within the Pantone Matching System, which makes it reliable for brand consistency. In environments where accurate reproduction of a specific gray is important for logos, backgrounds, or wayfinding, specifying PMS 430 C helps ensure all elements from different vendors align visually. It is recommended to always check a sample of PMS 430 C on the actual material and under expected lighting, since substrate and finish will influence the final appearance.
When painting metal or powder-coated parts with Pantone PMS 430 C, proper preparation is essential. Clean and scuff the surface to promote adhesion and ensure the existing coating or substrate is smooth and uniform. Keep in mind that the gloss and texture of the surface can change how PMS 430 C appears when finished. Test a sample application on the actual part or a similar substrate to confirm the color result meets expectations, as metal and powder-coated surfaces can make the gray look cooler or more reflective than on other materials.
Unfortunately, no.
Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.
The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 430 C in paint, we don't provide any crossover information. We've found that every paint company offers its own unique selection of colors and rarely does a color have an exact equivalent in another company's color collection, especially for a color collection like Pantone which is designed for bright colors and inks.
