PMS 412 C is a low-lightness, dark brown with a neutral-to-cool undertone and restrained saturation. Its overall character is subdued, functional, and grounding, with a professional appearance suited for precise application demands in branding, industrial design, and display fabrication contexts.

PMS 412 C appears very dark due to its low LRV of 2.75. The color displays a subtle, neutral-to-cool brown appearance. It maintains a moderate chroma, resulting in a muted, less saturated look. The undertone tends towards grayish brown, limiting overt warmth. PMS 412 C can be sensitive to finish selection, with gloss or matte surfaces impacting both depth and perceived neutrality.

PMS 412 C is frequently chosen for technical manuals, packaging, and institutional branding requiring an understated, serious tone. The color is often specified for backgrounds, bars, or frames in print collateral where black is too stark but neutrality is critical.

PMS 412 C works well as a background color or accent where a deep, restrained brown is needed without the harshness of solid black. It performs best in controlled lighting; in low light or high-gloss finishes, it may appear nearly black, while matte or satin finishes better reveal its brown character. Careful surface preparation is required to ensure uniformity, as uneven application can exaggerate its subtle color differences. Designers should compare it to other dark browns or blacks to determine if its muted tone and neutrality meet branding and visual requirements.

PMS 419 C: Darker and closer to pure black, with less apparent brown tone.

PMS 440 C: Slightly warmer and more olive-toned, resulting in a more earthy effect.

PMS 433 C: Cooler and more bluish, providing a distinctly different undertone.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 412 C

Are there any notable brand or real-world applications that use Pantone PMS 412 C?

Pantone PMS 412 C is commonly selected in institutional branding, technical print collateral, and packaging where a neutral, deep brown is needed. While specific brands are not cited, PMS 412 C is chosen when brand guidelines require a muted, serious tone for backgrounds, frames, or bars, especially where black is too stark but visual neutrality remains important.

How do I choose the right paint type for using PMS 412 C on interior versus exterior surfaces?

When specifying PMS 412 C for an interior application, standard interior paints, spray paints, or display coatings work well and provide consistent brand color in controlled environments. For exterior use, select a formula labeled for exterior performance to ensure color durability and resistance to weather. Always confirm that your chosen product fits the exposure and performance needs of your project before ordering.

How does using Pantone PMS 412 C help achieve a consistent brand experience?

Pantone PMS 412 C is a standardized color reference used to deliver a predictable and recognizable appearance across all branded materials and environments. By ordering this color, you help ensure brand assets, displays, or installations maintain the visual consistency intended by the brand, regardless of where or how they are produced.

When is it appropriate to order a standard Pantone PMS 412 C match for my project?

Ordering a standard Pantone PMS 412 C match is suitable for projects like brand-facing displays, signage, exhibit pieces, prototypes, or marketing installations where the Pantone reference is your visual target. It is the preferred approach when brand color accuracy and cohesion matter more than matching a specific pre-existing finish or substrate.

How quickly will I receive my paint matched to Pantone PMS 412 C?
All paint is custom-made to order. While most orders ship within 48 hours, the lead-time for paint made to match Pantone PMS 412 C depends on the type of paint needed. Interior and exterior house paints usually ship within 1 to 3 business days, while custom spray paint typically takes 3-5 business days to ship. The transit time depends on your location and the shipping method you choose. If your need is immediate, select Expedited Production during checkout. Most expedited production orders ship within 24 hours on business days. Please contact MyPerfectColor if you are concerned about a specific deadline. We do our best to make sure you get your paint on time. Learn more about paint lead times at MyPerfectColor.
Can I use the Pantone PMS 412 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

How do I convert PMS 412 C to a different color from another paint company?

While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 412 C in paint, we don't provide any crossover information.
