PMS 357 C is a standardized color from the Pantone Matching System, used extensively in applications where precise color identity is required across multiple materials and production processes. This color conveys a grounded, professional, and understated vibe and is often perceived as stable, technical, and formal. The low LRV (5.46) indicates a very dark tone, supporting visual weight and legibility when used for accents or backgrounds. Its hue properties position it as a cool, forest-like green, and its chromatic behavior is reserved but structured.

PMS 357 C has very low light reflectance, appearing perceptibly dark in most lighting conditions (LRV: 5.46). The color reads as a cool, emerald-based green with significant depth. It exhibits moderate chroma, resulting in a muted but clearly green undertone rather than vivid or pastel. The undertone suggests a subtle blue-green cast, giving it a sense of visual depth. This color maintains its character across most common finishes but may appear more muted in matte applications and slightly richer in gloss. The dark and cool quality means perceived color can shift under different ambient lighting; color matching in situ is recommended.

PMS 357 C is frequently associated with institutional branding standards, especially for universities, government agencies, and corporate visual identity programs requiring a dignified green.

PMS 357 C works well in settings where a deep, reliable green is needed to convey a sense of formality or structure, such as brand signage, exhibit buildouts, and architectural environmental graphics. When applying PMS 357 C, consider that its dark value may require multiple coats for uniform coverage, especially on light substrates. Lighting will strongly influence appearance; test in the intended environment and finish to validate color accuracy. Compared to lighter or warmer greens, PMS 357 C will tend to recess visually and create strong contrast with white or light elements.

This Pantone PMS color is defined by the Pantone Matching System standard. Evaluate the color using a physical Pantone reference and a real paint sample in the intended lighting and finish. Paint appearance varies by finish and lighting.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 357 C

How should I approach using Pantone PMS 357 C in a retail pop-up or brand environment?

When using Pantone PMS 357 C in retail or pop-up environments, it is important to plan for both durability and color accuracy. Because PMS 357 C is a very dark green with low light reflectance, lighting in the installation space will significantly affect how the color looks. Test a real paint sample in the intended lighting and finish before proceeding with large-scale applications. To achieve brand consistency, evaluate substrate compatibility and consider how surface finish (matte, gloss, etc.) will influence color depth and perceived brightness. For durability in high-traffic areas, select a paint type designed for the expected wear. Sampling first helps avoid costly misalignment with brand standards.

What do I need to know about hide and undercoating when applying Pantone PMS 357 C paint?

Pantone PMS 357 C is a very dark, saturated green that may require additional coats for full coverage, especially when painting over light surfaces. Plan for at least two coats to achieve uniform color. Using a tinted undercoat or gray primer can help improve hide and reduce the risk of visible inconsistencies. This approach supports consistent brand appearance, prevents overuse of topcoat, and helps maintain color accuracy. Always test a small area first to confirm coverage needs before beginning large projects.

How does the surface texture impact the appearance of Pantone PMS 357 C?

The appearance of Pantone PMS 357 C can change noticeably depending on the surface texture it is applied to. Smooth, glossy surfaces tend to make PMS 357 C appear slightly richer and deeper, while matte or textured finishes can mute the color and make it look lighter or more subdued. Rough textures can introduce shadowing, affecting perceived saturation and uniformity. For critical brand applications, sample PMS 357 C on the exact substrate and finish you intend to use, then review in your lighting environment to confirm the result.

Can I use the Pantone PMS 357 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
