PMS 306 C is a standard color from the Pantone PMS collection, widely recognized for its bright, clean, and technical appearance. The color consistently appears bold, lively, and modern, with a clarity that supports brand-forward applications and visual communication. Its moderately light visual value and distinct blue undertone make it well-suited for marketing-driven surfaces, wayfinding, and digital alignment.

PMS 306 C presents a moderately light appearance (LRV 36.63). The color exhibits a cool orientation with dominant cyan-blue tonality. PMS 306 C demonstrates high saturation and chromatic intensity, lending vividness to graphics and displays. The undertone is clean, without obvious grayness or muddiness. This color responds strongly to both gloss and matte finishes, with gloss finishes amplifying the intensity and matte finishes reducing perceived brightness.

PMS 306 C is most effective when a high-visibility, energetic blue is needed—especially in branding, large-scale graphics, and environments where fast color recognition is advantageous. It is sensitive to lighting conditions; under warm light, slight shifts toward teal may be observed, while cool lighting maintains its clarity. Because of its vibrant nature, PMS 306 C may require additional coats on porous or high-contrast surfaces to achieve opacity and color uniformity. Relative to similarly bright blues, PMS 306 C maintains a stronger cyan presence and may appear more saturated than alternatives with muted or violet undertones.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 306 C

Which brands or organizations are known to use Pantone PMS 306 C in their branding?

Pantone PMS 306 C has been widely cited as a signature blue in the British Airways brand palette, is frequently used in Olympic Games graphics and event signage, and is referenced by global technology brands that want a distinct, attention-grabbing blue in both digital and print systems. These examples help illustrate PMS 306 C's strong presence in high-visibility, brand-forward applications.

What is the best way to spray apply Pantone PMS 306 C to ensure good coverage and consistent appearance?

For the best results with Pantone PMS 306 C, it is recommended to apply several light coats instead of a single heavy coat. Allow each coat to dry adequately before the next application. This approach helps achieve more uniform color and reduces the chances of runs or uneven sheen, which is especially important for vivid and saturated colors like PMS 306 C.

How should I compare Pantone PMS 306 C spray paint to a Pantone book, and what differences should I expect?

Pantone books are reference standards and are typically printed on coated paper at a particular sheen. The appearance of PMS 306 C in paint can differ depending on the finish (matte or gloss) and the surface it is applied to. For the most accurate comparison, apply PMS 306 C spray paint on the actual material and under the lighting conditions where it will be used before making final decisions. Expect some variation compared to how the color looks in a Pantone book due to differences in substrate, lighting, and finish.

Should I choose a matte or gloss finish for Pantone PMS 306 C if I want the most visual impact in a brand environment?

Choosing between matte and gloss for PMS 306 C depends on your project needs. Gloss will make the color appear more vivid and saturated, creating maximum visual impact, but may introduce glare under strong lighting. Matte reduces glare and can make surfaces easier to read at close range, but may slightly mute the color''s intensity. Consider viewing distance, lighting conditions, and glare tolerance when selecting your finish for PMS 306 C.

Can I use the Pantone PMS 306 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
