PMS 298 C is part of the Pantone PMS collection, designed for consistent brand and design specification across various media. This color presents a clean, contemporary, and technical vibe, with an energetic and approachable appearance suitable for environments requiring high visual clarity. It is frequently selected where a crisp and vivid blue is needed for modern branding efforts.

PMS 298 C appears noticeably light for a chromatic blue (LRV 39.34). The color has a cool visual temperature. PMS 298 C exhibits strong saturation, delivering a vivid and distinct hue. This color presents a slight cyan undertone, offering clarity without veering toward purple or teal. PMS 298 C may demonstrate sensitivity to finish, appearing brighter and more intense in gloss or semi-gloss applications.

PMS 298 C is often used in environments that require approachable, visible blue for corporate or campaign branding. This color is frequently specified for exhibition displays, marketing installations, and retail signage where clear, brand-consistent blue is necessary.

PMS 298 C performs well in applications where a pronounced, light blue is needed against both white and darker backgrounds. Adequate surface preparation is important to achieve true color visibility, as lighter and more saturated blues may require multiple coats for uniform coverage, especially over dark or high-contrast substrates. The color’s apparent brightness can increase noticeably with higher-gloss finishes and strong ambient lighting, so confirm under project lighting conditions when exactness is critical. PMS 298 C maintains its chromatic clarity better than many similar light blues under variable lighting.

The following examples reflect commonly cited branding associations and are based on publicly referenced design usage; they are illustrative, not exhaustive or exclusive. PMS 298 C is widely cited as a core branding blue in the visual identity of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). PMS 298 C is frequently referenced in global sporting event branding, especially for water- or sky-themed visual systems. PMS 298 C is commonly associated with health, charity, and youth-focused campaigns due to its clean, energetic, and accessible tone.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 298 C

What is the difference between the Pantone color name and the code when ordering PMS 298 C?

When ordering PMS 298 C, it is critical to use the full Pantone code, including the suffix 'C', not just the name or a partial code. The Pantone code 'PMS 298 C' uniquely identifies a specific blue in the Pantone Matching System and ensures you are referencing the correct target. The name alone can sometimes be confused or shortened in ways that may lead to ordering the wrong product. Always double-check that your order references 'PMS 298 C' exactly to ensure brand consistency and avoid costly errors.

When should I sample PMS 298 C before full-scale production?

Sampling PMS 298 C is recommended for high-visibility brand projects, large installations, or any environment where lighting, substrate, or finish could affect appearance. Because PMS 298 C is a light, saturated blue, coverage and color perception can vary with surface type and gloss level. Sampling lets you confirm that the color meets expectations under actual project conditions before proceeding to full production, minimizing the risk of costly rework or brand inconsistency.

Why might PMS 298 C look different across various materials or substrates?

PMS 298 C may appear different on metal, plastic, vinyl, wood, or other surfaces due to absorption, texture, and reflectivity differences. Factors such as gloss level and how each substrate interacts with the paint influence the final look, especially for light or vivid blues like PMS 298 C. For brand applications involving multiple materials, always evaluate PMS 298 C on the actual substrates planned for your project to ensure visual consistency across elements.

What is the best way to apply PMS 298 C spray paint for brand displays?

For PMS 298 C, applying several thin, even coats with appropriate drying time between coats results in the most accurate and consistent finish. Because PMS 298 C is a light, chromatic blue, multiple coats may be needed for uniform coverage and vivid color. Avoid heavy application, as it can cause streaks or gloss inconsistencies. Allow each coat to dry fully before the next, following standard best practices for spray paint to achieve optimal brand and visual impact.

Can I use the Pantone PMS 298 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
