PMS 283 C is part of the Pantone PMS (Pantone Matching System) collection, a standardized color system used for consistent color communication in branding and production. The color is characterized by a light, moderately saturated blue with a clear, cool profile and professional vibe. It is considered fresh, technical, straightforward, and reliable in appearance, serving as a recognizable choice for establishing bright, engaging, and approachable visual identities.

- PMS 283 C appears light in tone, with an LRV of 48.28 indicating moderate reflectance. - The color has a distinctly cool tendency, consistent with its position in the blue spectrum. - PMS 283 C exhibits moderate saturation, giving it a recognizable presence without being overly intense. - The color features a clean blue undertone, with minimal visible gray or green influences. - The appearance of PMS 283 C can vary with finish; glossier applications may appear brighter and more vivid, while matte surfaces may appear softer. - PMS 283 C maintains color clarity under consistent daylight but can shift slightly cooler or flatter under low lighting.

PMS 283 C is effective when a visibly light, approachable blue is needed for brand alignment, display fabrication, or prototypes. For optimal results, evaluate coverage in the intended substrate and finish, as light blues may be more sensitive to sheen and surface imperfections. Lighting conditions significantly affect perceived brightness; natural or balanced light best maintains the intended appearance. Compared to similar blues, PMS 283 C is generally lighter and less saturated, making it suitable where a softer yet distinct blue is required without overpowering adjacent graphic elements.

Similar colors:
PMS 279 C – A deeper, more saturated blue, resulting in a bolder and stronger visual impact.

PMS 284 C – Slightly lighter and less chromatic than PMS 283 C, producing a more delicate blue presence.

PMS 542 C – Features a slightly warmer undertone and more muted intensity for a subtler appearance.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 283 C

How is Pantone PMS 283 C used to create consistent brand experiences?

Pantone PMS 283 C is specified to ensure visual consistency across all branded marketing, displays, and environmental elements. By using the exact PMS 283 C color code, you help deliver a recognizable brand appearance regardless of the production method or substrate. Brands rely on this standardized color to keep logos, prototypes, signage, and displays uniform and align every component with the intended visual identity.

When do I need to use a primer with Pantone PMS 283 C paint?

Primer use for PMS 283 C depends on the paint type, surface material, and exposure conditions. A primer is typically needed for bare, porous, or previously uncoated surfaces, or when switching between very different colors. Priming helps ensure adhesion, uniform appearance, and color accuracy, especially for lighter blues like PMS 283 C which can be more sensitive to small variations in the substrate. For best results, follow surface preparation instructions recommended for your chosen paint format and substrate.

Are there special coverage or hide considerations for Pantone PMS 283 C?

Yes. PMS 283 C is a light, moderately saturated blue, and lighter colors often provide less hide. You may need additional coats to achieve uniform coverage, especially over dark or uneven substrates. Sheen and finish can also impact perceived coverage. Planning for extra paint and applying consistent coats will help achieve the correct appearance for brand-facing applications.

When is sampling recommended before ordering Pantone PMS 283 C for a project?

Sampling is recommended for high-visibility brand projects, large installations, or when PMS 283 C will be applied to unfamiliar substrates or under unique lighting. This helps you confirm color accuracy and visual alignment before production. Sampling is especially important if your brand requires formal approval or if you are deploying PMS 283 C across multiple materials or display types.

How quickly will I receive my paint matched to Pantone PMS 283 C?
All paint is custom-made to order. While most orders ship within 48 hours, the lead-time for paint made to match Pantone PMS 283 C depends on the type of paint needed. Interior and exterior house paints usually ship within 1 to 3 business days, while custom spray paint typically takes 3-5 business days to ship. The transit time depends on your location and the shipping method you choose. If your need is immediate, select Expedited Production during checkout. Most expedited production orders ship within 24 hours on business days. Please contact MyPerfectColor if you are concerned about a specific deadline. We do our best to make sure you get your paint on time. Learn more about paint lead times at MyPerfectColor.
Can I use the Pantone PMS 283 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

How do I convert PMS 283 C to a different color from another paint company?

While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 283 C in paint, we don't provide any crossover information.
