PMS 279 C is a standardized color from the Pantone PMS system, widely used in branding, display fabrication, and industrial design settings. The color is best described as clear, professional, approachable, and stable, with a medium-light appearance. Its hue sits in the blue family with a subtle coolness, making it suitable for both distinctive branding and environments where a recognizable but not overpowering blue is needed.

- PMS 279 C appears as a medium to medium-light blue, with moderate depth (LRV 23.91). - The color tends toward a cool feeling, characteristic of blue hues in the 260–270 degree range. - The chroma is strong, resulting in a saturated and clean blue appearance. - The undertone is distinctly blue, with minimal visible green or violet shift. - The color’s perceived saturation and brightness may shift notably depending on surface texture and finish, with glossier finishes intensifying the color's vibrancy.

PMS 279 C works well where a clean, recognizable blue is specified for branded environments, displays, and marketing elements. It generally maintains its character across lighting conditions but can appear deeper or more saturated under high-gloss finishes or bright, cool-white lighting. When specifying or applying this color, uniform surface prep and consistent application method are important for achieving visual consistency, especially across different substrates. PMS 279 C generally reads cooler and more vivid than other medium blues, so evaluate adjacent colors and lighting to ensure the intended effect is maintained.

PMS 285 C — This color is deeper and more intense, creating a stronger, more assertive blue impression.

PMS 7687 C — This color is darker and has a more pronounced violet undertone, resulting in a cooler, richer blue.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 279 C

What should I keep in mind when comparing PMS 279 C paint samples for approval?

For accurate evaluation of PMS 279 C samples, always compare the color on the same type of substrate and under consistent lighting. Make sure any paint coatings are fully dry and cured before judging the match, as wet or uncured paint can look different. Even small changes in gloss, application thickness, or viewing conditions may affect how PMS 279 C appears. Following a repeatable method helps ensure the color you approve will remain consistent when produced at scale.

How long will it take to receive a custom paint order for Pantone PMS 279 C?

Transit times for orders of Pantone PMS 279 C depend on your shipping address and the shipping method selected at checkout. Production time may add to the total delivery schedule, especially for custom formulas. If your project has strict deadlines, allow extra time for both production and shipping, and consider faster shipping options when necessary.

Why is it important to confirm the suffix and series when ordering paint for PMS 279 C?

The Pantone code PMS 279 C includes a suffix that indicates the specific standard or application context. Always verify that PMS 279 C is the correct color as specified in your brand guidelines or project documentation, since selecting the wrong code or suffix can lead to an unexpected color result. Confirming the exact Pantone reference before ordering helps maintain brand consistency and avoids costly errors.

How much area does one spray can of PMS 279 C typically cover and how should I estimate quantity needed?

A standard spray can of PMS 279 C usually covers about 20 square feet per coat, but actual coverage can vary based on technique, surface texture, and required opacity. Bright and highly saturated colors like PMS 279 C may need multiple coats for full coverage, especially on contrasting substrates. For best results, estimate coverage by testing on your intended surface and include extra paint for additional coats and touch-ups due to overspray or surface absorbency.

How quickly will I receive my paint matched to Pantone PMS 279 C?
All paint is custom-made to order. While most orders ship within 48 hours, the lead-time for paint made to match Pantone PMS 279 C depends on the type of paint needed. Interior and exterior house paints usually ship within 1 to 3 business days, while custom spray paint typically takes 3-5 business days to ship. The transit time depends on your location and the shipping method you choose. If your need is immediate, select Expedited Production during checkout. Most expedited production orders ship within 24 hours on business days. Please contact MyPerfectColor if you are concerned about a specific deadline. We do our best to make sure you get your paint on time. Learn more about paint lead times at MyPerfectColor.
Can I use the Pantone PMS 279 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
