PMS 2766 C is part of the Pantone PMS (Pantone Matching System) collection, which is widely relied upon for brand, marketing, and industrial design color specification. This color presents as a dark, restrained blue with cool undertones, offering a vibe that is professional, formal, technical, and composed. Its appearance is notably deep due to an extremely low LRV (1.56), making it effective for applications demanding muted sophistication and minimal light reflectance.

PMS 2766 C is very dark, with an LRV of 1.56, providing minimal light reflectance. The color has a distinctly cool tendency, leaning towards blue-violet. PMS 2766 C displays low to moderate chroma, resulting in a subdued yet strong color presence. The undertone is cool, with a slight violet influence that creates depth. PMS 2766 C is sensitive to finish, with higher sheens slightly increasing visible saturation and lower sheens emphasizing its muted quality.

PMS 2766 C works well where a deep, understated blue is specified to convey professionalism or authority, such as in large-scale display graphics, exhibits, and background elements for brand settings. Care should be taken in environments with low light, as the color can appear nearly black and obscure detail; sample viewing in situ is recommended. Due to its depth, PMS 2766 C may require additional coats for adequate hide and uniform coverage, especially over lighter substrates, and its visible character may shift depending on lighting and gloss level compared to similar, slightly lighter or warmer blues.

Similar colors:
PMS 2767 C – Slightly darker and more neutral, reducing the cool violet influence seen in PMS 2766 C.

PMS 2757 C – Lighter and marginally warmer, introducing more visible blue content.

PMS 282 C – Darker and even less chromatic, with a more neutral undertone.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 2766 C

What challenges should I expect when matching Pantone PMS 2766 C across different materials?

Pantone PMS 2766 C is defined as a very deep, restrained blue with cool undertones, and achieving a precise match across various substrates and finishes can be challenging. Differences in gloss level, paint technology, and surface preparation may affect how PMS 2766 C appears. MyPerfectColor specializes in formulating PMS 2766 C for accurate color representation in paint formats, but you should expect minor variation compared to Pantone ink on paper or plastics. For critical projects, always review a sample under real lighting conditions to confirm acceptance before production.

How should I use samples of PMS 2766 C for brand approval before a full project rollout?

For PMS 2766 C, order a small paint sample in your intended format and apply it to the actual substrate that will be used for the project. Evaluate the sample in the installed lighting environment to confirm it meets your expectations for brand approval. This helps identify any appearance changes caused by lighting, substrate color, or finish. It is best practice to require signoff on the sample before starting large production to ensure brand consistency and avoid costly rework.

Why is using Pantone PMS 2766 C important for brand experience and consistency?

Pantone PMS 2766 C serves as a standard reference for brand color, ensuring that displays, signage, and branded environments consistently communicate your identity. Specifying PMS 2766 C allows designers, fabricators, and marketers to align on a single color target, reducing risk of visual mismatch. This approach is key for maintaining a recognizable and professional brand experience across locations and media. Always refer to the Pantone code when consistency matters.

What application method is recommended for PMS 2766 C spray paint to achieve best brand color results?

When applying PMS 2766 C spray paint, use multiple light coats instead of a single heavy coat. Allow proper drying or flash time between coats to achieve an even, uniform appearance and reduce the risk of runs or uneven color. PMS 2766 C has very low reflectance and may need extra coats for full coverage, especially over lighter substrates. Careful application helps the final finish accurately represent the deep, muted character required for brand settings.

Can I use the Pantone PMS 2766 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
