PMS 2717 C is a Pantone Matching System color often specified for brand and marketing materials where visual consistency and clear identity are important. It presents a light, airy blue with a distinctly cool cast and subtle chromatic presence. The color vibe is clean, contemporary, understated, and technical, making it functional for settings demanding readability and modern appeal.

PMS 2717 C appears as a light blue; its measured LRV of 49.89 puts it near the midpoint for reflectance, aiding brightness without glare. The color registers a cool undertone, leaning toward violet-blue on the spectrum. PMS 2717 C has moderate chroma, reading as clear and not muted but without aggressive saturation. This color is sensitive to gloss and lighting—cool, diffuse daylight will reinforce its clarity, while warm lighting can reduce the crisp effect. Undertones include a noticeable bluish-violet character that becomes more defined when paired with neutrals or whites.

PMS 2717 C works well in branded environments, displays, and prototypes where a light, noticeably blue, but not overpowering, color is required. It is generally well-suited for retail, event, and activation contexts demanding a fresh, contemporary impression. To ensure intended results, evaluate PMS 2717 C on the final substrate and in the site’s lighting conditions, as finish and illumination influence perceived color. Compared to other light blues, PMS 2717 C tends to stay crisper and cooler, but under incandescent or warm LED lighting, it can read slightly more subdued.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 2717 C

Why does PMS 2717 C not have a direct equivalent in other paint brand color collections?

Pantone PMS 2717 C is part of the Pantone Matching System, which is a unique set of standard colors used primarily for brand specification and consistency. Most major paint brands use their own proprietary palettes, and their formulas, colorants, and finishes are developed independently of Pantone standards. As a result, PMS 2717 C rarely matches exactly to any standard color from another paint company. Visual consistency can be influenced further by differences in finish and substrate. If your project requires PMS 2717 C specifically, order using its official designation to ensure the closest alignment with the Pantone target.

Do I need to use a primer before applying Pantone PMS 2717 C paint?

Whether you need a primer for PMS 2717 C depends on the paint type you select, the substrate you are coating, and the conditions the surface will face. Using a primer is generally recommended for unpainted, porous, or previously uncoated materials, as well as when covering strong existing colors. Priming will help with adhesion and even coverage, which is important for achieving brand-consistent results, especially with lighter or cooler hues like PMS 2717 C. Review your substrate requirements and paint guidance before starting your project for best results.

How do different finishes affect the appearance of Pantone PMS 2717 C?

The finish you choose for PMS 2717 C has a significant impact on how the color will look in practice. Gloss finishes reflect more light, making this light, cool blue appear brighter and possibly more saturated. Matte and satin finishes produce less reflection, which can make the color look more subdued or softer, especially under diffuse lighting. Evaluate PMS 2717 C in your intended finish, on your actual substrate, and within the site's lighting conditions to confirm you are satisfied with the visual effect before full installation.

Expedited production for PMS 2717 C is available as an option at checkout for many formats and order sizes. If you have a specific deadline or a fast-turn project, it is recommended to select expedited production during the ordering process and contact MyPerfectColor to confirm availability and shipping timelines for PMS 2717 C. Can I use the Pantone PMS 2717 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

How do I convert PMS 2717 C to a different color from another paint company?

While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 2717 C in paint, we don't provide any crossover information. We've found that every paint company offers its own unique selection of colors and rarely does a color have an exact equivalent in another company's color collection, especially for a color collection like Pantone which is designed for bright colors and inks.
