PMS 271 C is part of the Pantone PMS collection, a standardized system used by designers and brand managers to specify and reproduce colors accurately across print, paint, and manufactured goods. The vibe of PMS 271 C is clean, soft, approachable, cool, and subdued, making it well-suited for environments where a sense of calm and clarity is needed without overwhelming vibrancy.

PMS 271 C presents as a light-to-mid-value blue, with a moderate LRV of 30.4 supporting good visibility without being overly bright. The color exhibits a cool undertone, aligning with its blue base and hue angle near the blue-violet range. PMS 271 C has relatively moderate chroma, providing noticeable saturation but avoiding overly vivid intensity. The undertone is cool and can read slightly periwinkle or lavender under certain lighting conditions. The color’s appearance can shift subtly depending on lighting and finish, with glossier finishes often making it appear more saturated and slightly lighter.

PMS 271 C works well in branding, display, and environmental graphics where a gentle, professional blue is needed but with less formality than darker or more vivid blues. It is useful where a color must stand out while remaining subtle and non-dominant. When specifying this color, evaluate samples under final lighting to ensure appearance matches expectations, as cooler blues can be affected by both artificial and daylight sources. Coverage is typically good, but additional coats may be needed to achieve full opacity, especially when applied over darker substrates or with lower-hide finishes. When comparing to similar blues, PMS 271 C maintains a balance between vibrancy and subtlety, lacking the strong intensity of deeper or more chromatic options.

Similar colors:
PMS 270 C – Slightly lighter and less saturated, offering a more pastel appearance with a cooler cast.

PMS 272 C – Darker and more intensely chromatic, reading as a deeper blue-violet.

PMS 2705 C – Lighter and with a softer, more muted tone compared to PMS 271 C.

PMS 2715 C – Slightly deeper and more vibrant, with a marginally warmer undertone.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 271 C

What is the difference between the name and code for PMS 271 C, and how do I order the correct color?

PMS 271 C refers to a specific Pantone Matching System color identified by its exact code and suffix. When ordering paint for PMS 271 C, always use the full Pantone code including any suffix like 'C' (which stands for coated). Relying only on the name or omitting the suffix can result in getting a different shade or finish. Double-check your brand guidelines to confirm the required code, and specify 'PMS 271 C' exactly when placing your order.

What should I know about using PMS 271 C paint on plastic or low-energy surfaces?

Painting plastics or low-energy surfaces with PMS 271 C may require additional preparation to achieve strong adhesion. Many plastics need a specialized primer or surface treatment before applying the color to prevent peeling or poor coverage. It is recommended to test PMS 271 C paint on a sample of your actual plastic substrate before moving forward with production. This helps confirm appearance, adhesion, and durability under real project conditions.

Are there special challenges in matching PMS 271 C across different materials or finishes?

PMS 271 C, like other Pantone colors, may appear slightly different depending on the material and finish. Subtle shifts in shade, brightness, or saturation can occur due to factors such as gloss level, substrate color, and lighting. MyPerfectColor specializes in matching Pantone colors as closely as possible, but perfect visual alignment across all surfaces is not always achievable. For large-scale or high-visibility projects, it is best to evaluate samples of PMS 271 C paint on your intended material and under final lighting before full production.

How do I choose the right paint type for PMS 271 C for interior or exterior applications?

When specifying PMS 271 C for a project, select the paint type based on whether the finished item will be used indoors or outdoors. Interior applications typically allow for more finish options and less exposure to weather, while exterior use requires paints formulated for durability against sun, moisture, and temperature changes. Confirm your project's needs and select an appropriate paint product so that PMS 271 C performs as required in its final environment.

How quickly will I receive my paint matched to Pantone PMS 271 C?
All paint is custom-made to order. While most orders ship within 48 hours, the lead-time for paint made to match Pantone PMS 271 C depends on the type of paint needed. Interior and exterior house paints usually ship within 1 to 3 business days, while custom spray paint typically takes 3-5 business days to ship. The transit time depends on your location and the shipping method you choose. If your need is immediate, select Expedited Production during checkout. Most expedited production orders ship within 24 hours on business days. Please contact MyPerfectColor if you are concerned about a specific deadline. Can I use the Pantone PMS 271 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

Most people don't use a primer for a touch up paint application, but a primer may improve adhesion and is typically recommended for exterior applications.
How do I convert PMS 271 C to a different color from another paint company?

While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 271 C in paint, we don't provide any crossover information. We've found that every paint company offers its own unique selection of colors and rarely does a color have an exact equivalent in another company's color collection, especially for a color collection like Pantone which is designed for bright colors and inks.
