PMS 270 C is a Pantone Matching System (PMS) color, widely specified for consistent reproduction in branding, display fabrication, and marketing environments. It presents as a cool, understated blue-violet with a light-to-mid value and moderate chroma. The color reflects a calm, cool, muted, and professional character, often selected for projects demanding approachability and clarity without visual dominance.

PMS 270 C appears as a light-to-mid value color, with moderate reflectivity (LRV 43.66). The color trends cool due to its blue-violet hue. PMS 270 C shows subdued saturation, producing a gentle and muted appearance. This color has a clear blue-violet undertone, without pronounced warmth. PMS 270 C can show subtle differences in vibrancy or depth depending on finish (e.g., matte vs. gloss); finish should be matched intentionally for brand-specified outcomes.

PMS 270 C works well in applications where a soft, professional blue presence is needed that remains visually calm yet noticeable—for instance, branded environments, displays, signage, or collateral requiring accurate PMS color reproduction. Evaluate lighting conditions closely, as cooler hues can shift appearance under warm or mixed lighting. Ensure surface preparation supports evenness, as lighter, less saturated blues may show substrate or texture inconsistencies. When matching to PMS 270 C, verify results under project-specific lighting and finish conditions, as apparent color can vary notably with hue angle and ambient light compared to other blue or blue-violet shades.

Similar colors:

  • PMS 271 C: Lighter, with a gentler and less saturated effect.
  • PMS 272 C: Slightly deeper and cooler, providing more visual contrast.
  • PMS 2716 C: More chromatic and vivid; appears more saturated than PMS 270 C.
  • PMS 7451 C: Cooler and brighter, creating a stronger blue presence.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 270 C

How accurately can paint be matched to PMS 270 C, and what challenges should I expect?

PMS 270 C is a Pantone Matching System color designed for consistent visual branding, but matching paint to this standard may present some challenges. Factors like finish, substrate, and lighting affect the perceived color. Lighter and less saturated hues like PMS 270 C can show subtle shifts when applied on different materials or under various lighting. MyPerfectColor specializes in producing accurate matches against the official Pantone reference, but you should always evaluate samples in the actual project conditions before final approval. For critical brand applications, consider approving drawdowns or samples under your specific lighting and finish requirements.

What surface preparation steps should I follow for best results with PMS 270 C paint?

Proper surface preparation is key for consistent and professional results with PMS 270 C paint. Begin by cleaning the surface to remove any dust, oil, or grease. For glossy or very smooth surfaces, lightly scuff or sand to promote adhesion. Make sure the surface is dry before priming or painting. If possible, test a small area to verify coverage and appearance before full application. Lighter, muted blue-violets like PMS 270 C may highlight surface irregularities or texture, so evenness in prep will support color consistency on branded projects.

What is the best way to compare painted samples to PMS 270 C during approval?

For accurate color approval of PMS 270 C, always compare samples in the lighting conditions where the finished product will be displayed. Use the same substrate and finish type as your final application, since differences can affect color appearance. Allow the paint to fully dry and cure before judging the match to PMS 270 C. For critical brand use, evaluate multiple samples side by side to confirm consistency. Relying on these practical steps helps ensure PMS 270 C meets your visual and brand expectations in situ.

How long will it take to receive paint custom matched to PMS 270 C?

Paint matched to PMS 270 C is made to order. Typical production lead time depends on the product type and current production volume. Most orders of PMS 270 C custom paint formats, like custom spray paint, are completed within a few business days, but larger or more specialized orders may take longer. Factor manufacturing and shipping time into your project schedule, especially if you have brand launches or display roll-outs with deadline requirements.

How quickly will I receive my paint matched to Pantone PMS 270 C?
All paint is custom-made to order. While most orders ship within 48 hours, the lead-time for paint made to match Pantone PMS 270 C depends on the type of paint needed. Interior and exterior house paints usually ship within 1 to 3 business days, while custom spray paint typically takes 3-5 business days to ship. The transit time depends on your location and the shipping method you choose. If your need is immediate, select Expedited Production during checkout. Most expedited production orders ship within 24 hours on business days. Please contact MyPerfectColor if you are concerned about a specific deadline. We do our best to make sure you get your paint on time. Learn more about paint lead times at MyPerfectColor.
Can I use the Pantone PMS 270 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

How much area will one spray can cover? And what is Pantone PMS 270 C spray paint made of?

To make spray paint matched to Pantone PMS 270 C. MyPerfectColor uses an acrylic enamel which is a fast-drying durable coating suitable for interior or exterior use. MyPerfectColor custom spray paint enables you to conveniently achieve a professional spray-smooth finish in any color in any sheen. It sticks well to most surfaces including metal, plastics, powder-coatings, cabinets and primed or previously painted wood.

Do I need a primer for Pantone PMS 270 C?
The need for primer for Pantone PMS 270 C depends on the type of paint, the substrate being painted and where it will be located. See our Primer Selection Table to see what primer you might need and learn more about when you might need a primer. Most people don't use a primer for a touch up paint application, but a primer may improve adhesion and is typically recommended for exterior applications.
How do I convert PMS 270 C to a different color from another paint company?

While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 270 C in paint, we don't provide any crossover information. We've found that every paint company offers its own unique selection of colors and rarely does a color have an exact equivalent in another company's color collection, especially for a color collection like Pantone which is designed for bright colors and inks.
