PMS 258 C is part of the Pantone PMS (Pantone Matching System) collection, primarily serving professional audiences in marketing, display fabrication, and industrial design. The color is deep, saturated, technical, striking, and visually assertive, designed for controlled, repeatable visual impact where color consistency matters. The hue is classified as a strong violet with cool undertones and a low light reflectance value, giving it a bold presence in both physical and digital brand representation.

PMS 258 C appears as a dark, noticeably saturated violet with a strong chromatic character. The color has a cool temperature, displaying blue-violet undertones. The LRV of 13.16 indicates low reflectance and visual weight, resulting in a deep appearance, especially under artificial lighting. The chroma contributes to vibrancy, ensuring the color remains visually distinct even in low light. This color may be sensitive to finish selection; gloss finishes can increase perceived saturation, while matte finishes may mute its richness.

PMS 258 C is frequently used in brand identity systems for companies and institutions seeking a deep, impactful violet for signage, displays, and marketing environments. The color is often specified where consistent visual communication is required across print, physical product, and digital channels.

PMS 258 C works well when a memorable, bold violet is needed for branded environments, displays, or products requiring consistent recognition. Due to its low reflectance and high saturation, the color can look significantly different depending on lighting type and finish, so samples should always be tested in final conditions. Compared to similar violets, PMS 258 C maintains stronger chroma and a cooler undertone; it can appear denser and less red-shifted than neighboring purple hues. High saturation may require additional coats for full coverage, especially over light or uneven substrates.

Similar colors:
PMS 2592 C: Slightly lighter and more chromatic, resulting in a more vibrant and less dense appearance.

PMS 2597 C: Cooler and bluer in tone, with higher chroma but appears less deep.

PMS 2665 C: Lighter and somewhat less saturated, creating a softer violet impression.

PMS 268 C: Darker, with even deeper visual weight and a stronger blue undertone.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 258 C

What types of branding or display projects commonly specify Pantone PMS 258 C?

Pantone PMS 258 C is often chosen for signage, displays, and branded environments where a deep, saturated violet color is required for consistent brand recognition. It is used in situations where visual impact and brand consistency across varied materials and lighting are priorities, such as in marketing installations, retail displays, and high-profile exhibit components.

Are orders for Pantone PMS 258 C paint custom made, and what should I consider before placing an order?

Paint matched to Pantone PMS 258 C is custom made to order, which means it cannot be easily changed or returned once production begins. Review your brand guidelines, select the correct product type and finish, and consider ordering a small sample first if you need to confirm appearance under your actual lighting and on your intended substrate.

Why is it important to confirm the full code and suffix when ordering Pantone PMS 258 C paint?

Pantone PMS colors may include suffixes such as 'C', 'U', or 'M' that indicate different reference conditions or applications. When specifying paint for PMS 258 C, confirm the complete code and suffix from your official brand standards to ensure you receive the intended color reference for your project.

How can sampling PMS 258 C help my brand approval workflow?

Ordering a small sample of PMS 258 C allows you to test color appearance in your actual environment and on your specific substrate before committing to a full order. This is especially important for saturated colors like PMS 258 C, which can shift noticeably depending on finish and lighting. Sampling supports accurate approvals and reduces risk in brand-critical projects.

How quickly will I receive my paint matched to Pantone PMS 258 C?
All paint is custom-made to order. While most orders ship within 48 hours, the lead-time for paint made to match Pantone PMS 258 C depends on the type of paint needed. Interior and exterior house paints usually ship within 1 to 3 business days, while custom spray paint typically takes 3-5 business days to ship. Can I use the Pantone PMS 258 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

How do I convert PMS 258 C to a different color from another paint company?

While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 258 C in paint, we don't provide any crossover information.
