PMS 2597 C is part of the Pantone PMS (Pantone Matching System) collection and is characterized by an intense, visually assertive purple with a distinctly cool, saturated vibe. The color's extremely low LRV (4.1) means it is perceived as very dark, with high color purity and a near-blue undertone. The collection is designed for precise, standardized color communication in brand, marketing, and industrial applications where consistency and visual differentiation are critical.

- PMS 2597 C is perceived as a very dark color (LRV 4.1). - The color has a pronounced cool tone, leaning towards the blue end of the purple spectrum. - PMS 2597 C is highly saturated, resulting in a vivid and bold appearance. - The undertone is distinctly cool, with blue and violet notes dominating. - The color is sensitive to finish and lighting, with gloss or matte effects significantly altering its appearance and apparent depth.

PMS 2597 C is best used where bold, highly recognizable brand color is required in marketing displays, signage, and prototype models. Because of its strong chroma and low light reflectance, it can appear deeper and more intense under certain lighting conditions and may require multiple coats for uniform coverage, especially on lighter substrates. Color appearance and vibrancy will shift with lighting type, and high-contrast finishes (such as gloss versus matte) can impact perceived depth. When matching across different materials, always assess with a physical Pantone reference and a paint sample in intended lighting and finish.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 2597 C

What should I consider when using Pantone PMS 2597 C in pop-ups or retail environments?

When using Pantone PMS 2597 C in pop-ups or retail environments, it is essential to evaluate the lighting conditions and the type of surface to be painted. PMS 2597 C is a deeply saturated and dark purple, which can look significantly different based on lighting and finish. Sampling the color on the intended substrate and under expected lighting will help ensure the color meets brand expectations before committing to a large installation. Durability needs should also guide the selection of paint format and finish, as heavy traffic areas may require coatings with greater abrasion resistance. Test samples for both color appearance and performance before final application.

How does sheen choice affect the appearance of PMS 2597 C and how should I choose the right finish?

The sheen or finish of PMS 2597 C will change how the color is perceived. A gloss finish can make PMS 2597 C appear more vivid and increase its visual depth, while a matte finish can mute its intensity and make the color seem darker. For areas that will be viewed from a distance or need maximum brand impact, a higher sheen may be preferable. However, gloss will also highlight surface imperfections. Consider the substrate and your brand objectives when selecting sheen, and test samples in your lighting conditions before finalizing your choice.

Why is Pantone PMS 2597 C commonly specified for signs, displays, and exhibits, and what are best practices for matching?

Pantone PMS 2597 C is a standardized brand color often used in signs, displays, and exhibits to achieve consistent visual identity across materials and vendors. Because material and finish can affect final color appearance, it is recommended to request a production sample matched to an official Pantone reference and assessed under the intended lighting and finish. This helps confirm brand accuracy before full fabrication, which is critical for large installations or where color fidelity is highly visible.

Can Pantone PMS 2597 C paint be returned if it does not match my expectations?

Pantone PMS 2597 C paint is custom made to order for each request, so it cannot be returned or exchanged based on color preference or if expectations are not met. It is important to carefully select the product type and sheen and to order a sample if you need to confirm appearance or coverage before placing a large or critical order. Sampling allows you to verify color and finish accuracy under your specific conditions and helps avoid mismatches.

Can I use the Pantone PMS 2597 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
