PMS 249 C is a member of the Pantone PMS (Pantone Matching System) collection, which is recognized for standardized color communication in branding, display fabrication, and industrial design. The color conveys a deep, saturated, and assertive presence, balanced by a cool undertone and a subdued, formal appearance. It is often described as bold, technical, stable, and impactful, making it suitable for roles requiring color distinctiveness, especially where strong visual identity or color signaling is essential.

- PMS 249 C appears distinctly dark in value, with a low LRV of 6.24, indicating minimal reflectance. - The color exhibits a cool tendency, derived from its purple-violet positioning on the color wheel. - PMS 249 C is highly saturated, resulting in a vivid, intense appearance compared to more muted purples. - This color has a blue-violet undertone, which reinforces its sense of depth and coolness. - PMS 249 C can be finish-sensitive; glossy finishes tend to accentuate its saturation and depth, while matte finishes may produce a slightly muted effect.

PMS 249 C works well when a strong, formal brand color is needed, particularly for signage, displays, or brand environments requiring a noticeable yet sophisticated purple. When specifying this color, verify appearance using a physical Pantone standard and a paint sample under intended lighting, as low LRV hues often shift noticeably under different light sources and sheens. PMS 249 C typically outperforms less saturated or lighter purples in color recognition but may require careful application and substrate preparation for uniformity, as dark, saturated colors can emphasize surface irregularities.

Similar colors:
PMS 2612 C: Darker and even more blue-toned, producing a cooler and more formal appearance.

PMS 260 C: Slightly lighter and less intense, resulting in a softer look.

PMS 254 C: More chromatic and marginally warmer, displaying a stronger magenta shift.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 249 C

What are the durability expectations if I order PMS 249 C as spray paint?

The durability of PMS 249 C spray paint depends on substrate preparation, whether a topcoat is used, and the environment where the painted item will be located. Proper surface preparation and priming can greatly enhance adhesion and longevity. If the application is for temporary marketing displays or indoor exhibits, a standard spray paint may be appropriate. For environments with higher wear, moisture, or outdoor exposure, consider requesting a protective clear topcoat or choosing a more robust paint system such as a 2K epoxy or urethane. Always evaluate the finished color sample under actual lighting and use conditions before full production.

When should I order PMS 249 C as a standard Pantone PMS match instead of requesting a sample or OEM match?

Ordering PMS 249 C as a standard Pantone PMS match is best when your project requires brand-facing displays, signage, or prototype components and the visual alignment with Pantone PMS 249 C is the main goal. This approach is common for marketing installations, event branding, and environments where the Pantone reference is the approval standard. For high-stakes applications such as permanent retail installations or large-scale branded environments where color must be reviewed under final lighting or substrates, consider requesting a custom sample for approval before large orders.

How should I specify PMS 249 C for prototypes and concept models where accurate brand color is needed?

For prototypes and concept models where visual brand alignment is important, specify PMS 249 C by its Pantone code and choose a paint format that fits your fabrication method, such as spray paint or paint pens. Evaluate the color using a physical Pantone standard and a painted sample under the expected lighting and finish. Dark, saturated colors like PMS 249 C can shift in appearance with different sheens, so select the intended gloss level early in the process. Be aware that surface texture and preparation can affect the visual consistency of PMS 249 C, especially on concept model materials.

What is the typical lead time for ordering PMS 249 C paint in custom spray or liquid formats?

PMS 249 C paint is made to order to ensure accurate color matching for branding and display use. Typical production lead time varies by product type and current production volume, but most custom spray and liquid paint orders ship within a few business days after placement. For time-sensitive marketing or fabrication schedules, confirm specific lead times at checkout and allow extra time for large or complex orders.

How quickly will I receive my paint matched to Pantone PMS 249 C?
All paint is custom-made to order. While most orders ship within 48 hours, the lead-time for paint made to match Pantone PMS 249 C depends on the type of paint needed. Interior and exterior house paints usually ship within 1 to 3 business days, while custom spray paint typically takes 3-5 business days to ship. The transit time depends on your location and the shipping method you choose. If your need is immediate, select Expedited Production during checkout. Most expedited production orders ship within 24 hours on business days. Please contact MyPerfectColor if you are concerned about a specific deadline. We do our best to make sure you get your paint on time. Learn more about paint lead times at MyPerfectColor.
Can I use the Pantone PMS 249 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 249 C in paint, we don't provide any crossover information.
