PMS 236 C is a Pantone Matching System (PMS) color from the Pantone PMS collection, recognized for its distinctly saturated, cool magenta character. The color conveys a sense of vibrancy, approachability, and modernity while maintaining clarity and visibility. With a light-to-mid visual impact and clear chromatic intensity, it is commonly selected to create attention-grabbing, upbeat spaces or elements in commercial settings.

PMS 236 C presents as a moderately light color, with an LRV of 54.93. The color is cool-leaning, with a magenta undertone and a subtle blue influence, consistent with its hue angle placement. It exhibits high saturation, maintaining vividness and impact under most viewing conditions. The undertone is clearly magenta, with visible blue-red bias. PMS 236 C may be susceptible to noticeable shifts depending on finish: gloss finishes can amplify its vibrancy, while matte finishes can subdue perceived saturation.

PMS 236 C works well in applications requiring distinctness and visibility, such as branded features, marketing displays, or environments targeting youthful or energetic themes. When specifying this color, ensure it is evaluated under intended lighting conditions, as perceived brightness and chromaticity may shift, especially between cool and warm light sources. Variations in finish (gloss vs. matte) will noticeably affect vibrancy—plan surface prep and finish selection accordingly. PMS 236 C stands out from similar hues by being notably more saturated and visually prominent, but may require additional coats for full uniformity due to its chromatic intensity.

This Pantone PMS color is defined by the Pantone Matching System standard. Evaluate the color using a physical Pantone reference and a real paint sample in the intended lighting and finish. Paint appearance varies by finish and lighting.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 236 C

Why is there not a direct paint brand equivalent for Pantone PMS 236 C?

Pantone PMS 236 C is defined by the Pantone Matching System standard, and most paint brands have their own unique color palettes. Vivid Pantone colors like PMS 236 C are rarely found as exact matches in other paint brand collections because formulations, base pigments, and intended uses vary across manufacturers. For brand-critical projects, always specify PMS 236 C directly rather than seeking cross-references to ensure consistent visual results.

When should I sample the color PMS 236 C before full production?

Sampling PMS 236 C is strongly recommended for large installations, high-visibility displays, or projects with brand approval workflows. Because lighting conditions, substrate material, and finish (gloss or matte) can all affect the perceived color, reviewing an actual paint sample alongside a physical Pantone reference will help ensure the final result meets brand expectations and performs as intended in the target environment.

What should I know about coverage and hide when using Pantone PMS 236 C?

Because PMS 236 C is a bright and highly saturated magenta, it may require more coats to achieve full, even coverage compared to less intense colors. Plan for extra material and time, especially over contrasting or uneven substrates, to ensure the color appears uniform and matches the Pantone reference. Proper surface preparation and base color selection can also improve hide and final appearance for PMS 236 C.

Are expedited lead times available for ordering custom paint in PMS 236 C?

Expedited production is available for PMS 236 C and can be selected during checkout if fast turnaround is required. If your project has a firm deadline or complex logistics, contact MyPerfectColor before ordering to confirm that your timeline can be met. This helps ensure color accuracy and avoids unnecessary delays for brand-critical launches or installations.

Interior and exterior house paints usually ship within 1 to 3 business days, while custom spray paint typically takes 3-5 business days to ship. The transit time depends on your location and the shipping method you choose. If your need is immediate, select Expedited Production during checkout. Can I use the Pantone PMS 236 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
