PMS 227 C is a Pantone Matching System (PMS) color from the Pantone PMS collection, frequently referenced in brand identity and display fabrication. Its visual character is bold, saturated, and deep, with a distinctly cool magenta hue. The color signals vibrancy, energy, and modernity while maintaining a sense of technical precision and brand focus. With a low LRV of 9.01, it appears very dark compared to most colors in the PMS system, making it effective for impactful accenting or primary branding against light backgrounds.

PMS 227 C presents as a dark color with low light reflectance (LRV 9.01), making it visually weighty.

The color has a cool magenta base, showing noticeable reddish-purple bias.

It is highly saturated and chromatic, resulting in a vivid and unmistakable presence.

The undertone is consistently cool, with blue-red dominance.

The color may show moderate finish sensitivity; higher-gloss finishes can intensify perceived saturation and depth, while matte finishes can reduce its vibrancy.

PMS 227 C is often used by design teams for brand-specific assets in retail display, signage, and event environments requiring a distinctive magenta.

This color is frequently specified in marketing collateral and environmental graphics where differentiation and color brand consistency are priorities.

PMS 227 C functions effectively in applications where visual differentiation from both standard reds and purples is desired. Its saturated, dark character provides strong contrast on light surfaces and can dominate dimly lit environments, so evaluate under project lighting before final specification. Careful attention should be paid to surface preparation and finish selection—matte may mute chroma, while gloss can enhance it. Compared to similar PMS magentas, PMS 227 C is notably darker and more saturated, often reading richer and more intense in physical samples.

Similar colors:

  • PMS 226 C – Similar hue but lighter and slightly more vibrant.
  • PMS 228 C – Noticeably darker and more muted, with deeper plum undertones.
  • PMS 241 C – Lighter and cooler, presenting more as a true purple than a saturated magenta.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 227 C

What does it mean to order Pantone PMS 227 C paint? Is it a formula or a reference?

Ordering Pantone PMS 227 C paint means you are requesting a color match to the official Pantone PMS 227 C target. This PMS code defines a visual color standard, not a specific paint formula or coating process. It is used for brand and display consistency, but the paint is created to visually align with the Pantone color reference under standard conditions. Always confirm finish and sheen to match project needs, as these can affect how PMS 227 C appears.

When should I sample PMS 227 C paint before committing to a large order?

Sampling PMS 227 C paint is recommended for high-visibility brand displays, permanent installations, or any project where final color acceptance is critical. Sampling is also wise if the paint will be applied to unusual surfaces or viewed under specific lighting, since appearance can change with substrate and environment. Testing a sample ensures the final result meets your expectations for PMS 227 C in your actual project conditions.

How important is the correct code or suffix when ordering PMS 227 C paint?

It is important to confirm you are using the correct code and suffix, such as PMS 227 C, when ordering paint. Pantone codes may include suffixes like 'C' for coated or 'U' for uncoated, and these specify the visual target referenced by the PMS standard. Always check your brand guidelines or documentation to ensure you are specifying the right version for your project, as PMS 227 C may differ from other related codes.

Can I use PMS 227 C paint for touch-up of existing finishes?

PMS 227 C paint is intended for creating brand-consistent displays and new assets, not for touch-up of unknown finishes. If you need touch-up-quality precision for an existing item, the best approach is to send a physical part for custom color matching. This helps achieve a closer match to the specific finish, substrate, and aging of your original component, since PMS codes represent a visual target and not the history of the installed finish.

How quickly will I receive my paint matched to Pantone PMS 227 C?
All paint is custom-made to order. While most orders ship within 48 hours, the lead-time for paint made to match Pantone PMS 227 C depends on the type of paint needed. Interior and exterior house paints usually ship within 1 to 3 business days, while custom spray paint typically takes 3-5 business days to ship. The transit time depends on your location and the shipping method you choose. If your need is immediate, select Expedited Production during checkout. Most expedited production orders ship within 24 hours on business days. Please contact MyPerfectColor if you are concerned about a specific deadline. Can I use the Pantone PMS 227 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
