PMS 213 C from the Pantone PMS collection is a saturated, high-impact magenta noted for its strong visual presence and consistent reproduction in professional branding systems. The color conveys a dynamic, energetic, and assertive vibe, with a distinctly modern and attention-grabbing appearance. It is frequently used where maximum color visibility and accurate brand alignment are operational priorities.

PMS 213 C appears distinctly saturated and vibrant. The color presents as a medium-dark tone, with a relatively low LRV (19.27), contributing to a deep visual impression. This color trends cool due to its magenta base but carries a subtle warmth compared to purple or cyan hues. PMS 213 C exhibits strong chroma, resulting in pronounced vividness and intensity. The undertone is predominantly magenta, with a slight hint of red, making it less blue than other magentas. The color may display notable finish sensitivity; higher-gloss finishes can amplify vibrancy and perceived depth, while matte finishes may slightly mute intensity.

PMS 213 C is often specified for large-format brand graphics and signage that require prominent color identity. The color is frequently used in branded retail and promotional installations where immediate visual recognition is required.

PMS 213 C is operationally effective in environments demanding strong brand alignment and high visibility, such as trade show exhibits, point-of-purchase displays, and marketing activations. Due to its saturated nature, it may require additional coats or a tinted base for even coverage, particularly over contrasting backgrounds. Lighting and finish selection should be carefully evaluated, as both materially alter perceived color intensity and saturation. PMS 213 C can appear more vivid than similar magentas under direct or cool lighting but may look deeper and less vibrant under warm or diffuse lights.

Similar colors:
PMS 212 C – Lighter and less chromatic, providing a softer, less intense magenta impression.

PMS 214 C – Slightly darker and more purplish, introducing a marginally cooler tone.

PMS 219 C – More intense and with higher chroma, resulting in an even more vibrant magenta appearance.

PMS 226 C – Deeper, with a stronger red influence, leading to a warmer overall effect.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 213 C

What is the difference between the name PMS 213 C and its code, and how do I correctly order paint for PMS 213 C?

PMS 213 C is identified by both its numeric code and its color name. The code 'PMS 213 C' uniquely specifies this particular magenta within the Pantone system, where 'PMS' stands for Pantone Matching System and 'C' indicates the coated formula guide. To ensure you receive the correct color, always provide the full code, including any suffix like 'C', when ordering. Using the full PMS 213 C code avoids confusion with similar numbers or finishes and ensures your order matches your intended Pantone brand standard.

How does sheen selection impact the appearance of PMS 213 C, and how should I choose the right finish for a branding project?

The sheen or gloss level selected can noticeably change how PMS 213 C appears. High-gloss finishes will make PMS 213 C look more vibrant and saturated, enhancing the depth and intensity of the magenta. Matte or low-sheen finishes will mute the brightness, which may be appropriate for short viewing distances or to reduce reflections. When choosing a sheen, consider the viewing distance, lighting, the substrate material, and the overall visibility required for your brand display. Always confirm finish requirements with brand guidelines if available, as this may impact perceived color accuracy in your application.

Are there special challenges in matching PMS 213 C to paint, and what should I expect from the reproduction of this color?

PMS 213 C is a vivid and highly saturated magenta, making it more difficult to match than many less intense colors. Factors like substrate, lighting, and finish choice all affect how the color appears. MyPerfectColor specializes in achieving close visual matches to PMS 213 C using high-quality paint formulations, but keep in mind no paint can universally match all materials under all conditions. For maximum color alignment, order paint using the specific PMS code and be prepared for possible variations due to finish and application method. Testing a sample under your expected lighting and on your intended substrate is recommended when exact appearance is critical.

What considerations are important when applying PMS 213 C to metal or powder-coated parts?

When using PMS 213 C paint on metal or powder-coated surfaces, proper surface preparation is critical for both appearance and coverage. Clean and scuff the surface as needed to ensure adhesion. The existing color, coating, and gloss level on the part can impact the final look of PMS 213 C, potentially shifting perceived color or gloss. Because PMS 213 C is saturated and may have lower hide, a tinted primer or additional coats might be needed for uniform coverage. If precise color appearance is important for your brand project, evaluate a sample paint application on your specific material and under expected lighting conditions before full production.

Can I use the Pantone PMS 213 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
