PMS 199 C is a standardized color from the Pantone Matching System (PMS) collection, recognized for its intense, attention-grabbing red appearance. The color presents as bold, modern, and assertive, with a distinctly energetic and highly saturated character. It is frequently perceived as dynamic and powerful, making it practical for applications demanding high visual recognition, especially in branded contexts.
PMS 199 C appears as a strong red with a vibrant, saturated quality.
The color demonstrates moderate darkness; LRV provided is 16.02, indicating a lower reflectance and visual weight on surfaces.
PMS 199 C is considered a warm-toned red with a slight orange undertone, as suggested by its position in the PMS range and its qualitative hue angle.
The high chroma contributes to its intensity and visual punch.
The color can exhibit noticeable finish sensitivity; its sheen can amplify either vibrancy or perceived depth, depending on gloss level.
PMS 199 C is often used in corporate identity systems for logos, point-of-sale materials, and signage requiring a bold red statement.
The color is frequently specified for marketing collateral, promotional displays, and experiential branding elements.
PMS 199 C works effectively where immediate attention and visual energy are priorities, particularly in branded spaces and displays. When specifying this color, be aware that lighting and surface finish can significantly affect its appearance; gloss finishes will heighten its vibrancy, while matte finishes can mute its intensity. Because of its strong chroma and relatively low LRV, multiple coats may be necessary for uniform, saturated coverage—especially over lighter substrates or in low-hide application systems. Its boldness distinguishes it from more muted reds, making it suitable when differentiation from standard or subdued reds is required.
This Pantone PMS color is defined by the Pantone Matching System standard. Evaluate the color using a physical Pantone reference and a real paint sample in the intended lighting and finish. Paint appearance varies by finish and lighting.

Changing the finish of PMS 199 C can make the color appear noticeably different, even though it is the same Pantone reference. Gloss finishes tend to increase the perceived vibrancy and brightness, while matte finishes can make PMS 199 C appear more subdued and muted. For the most accurate brand presentation, always evaluate PMS 199 C samples in both the intended sheen and lighting conditions before finalizing production.
Yes, PMS 199 C is a highly saturated, bold red with a relatively low light reflectance value (LRV 16.02). These factors mean PMS 199 C may require additional coats to achieve a uniform, fully saturated appearance, especially over light or contrasting surfaces. Plan for possible extra coats when high visual consistency is essential for your project.
When specifying PMS 199 C for interior use such as displays, exhibits, or branded environments, select a paint formula optimized for indoor exposure. For exterior projects like signage or outdoor installations, choose a product formulated for outdoor durability and UV resistance. Confirm the intended use environment before finalizing your order for PMS 199 C to achieve the desired longevity and appearance.
PMS 199 C specifies a brand color target, not a recipe for matching an existing finish on a part. For touch-up or repair results where appearance must match exactly, send a physical part or panel so the coating can be matched under the correct conditions. Pantone PMS 199 C paint is best used for brand alignment on manufactured or display components, rather than for repairing pre-existing coatings.
Unfortunately, no.
Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.
The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
