PMS 198 C is a standardized color in the Pantone PMS collection, widely used for marketing, display, and industrial design applications requiring a consistent, recognizable hue. The color presents a vibrant, saturated reddish pink, appearing lively, energetic, and striking. Its overall vibe can be described as bold, attention-getting, contemporary, and visually assertive.
PMS 198 C exhibits a medium-dark appearance, reflecting its moderate light reflectance value (LRV 23.91). The color leans warm due to its substantial red content and slight yellow undertone. This color displays high saturation, producing a strong, noticeable impression. PMS 198 C features a clear pink-red undertone that may become more pronounced depending on finish sheen. The color generally appears richer and deeper in finishes with higher gloss or under cool lighting conditions.
PMS 198 C is often specified for branded retail displays and exhibit graphics requiring a vivid and energetic reddish pink. The color is commonly referenced in packaging design where impactful, high-visibility pink-reds are needed for brand identity. PMS 198 C is widely used in marketing collateral where consistent color matching across materials is critical.
PMS 198 C works well when a strong, contemporary pink-red is needed to convey energy and draw attention, particularly in branded environments. Due to its lower light reflectance and high chroma, the color may appear deeper in low-light settings, and coverage could require additional coats to achieve uniform saturation, especially on light or uneven substrates. Users should always confirm the appearance under intended lighting and specified sheen, as gloss levels and ambient color can significantly influence the perceived vibrancy and warmth compared to similar reddish-pink hues, which may be lighter, cooler, or less saturated.

Pantone books serve as visual standards for PMS 198 C, but the appearance of painted PMS 198 C may differ due to factors such as finish sheen, substrate material, and application method. Paints are matched to the PMS target, yet differences in gloss level or base surface can shift how the color appears compared to the paper swatch. For brand-sensitive or critical projects, sample the actual paint on your intended substrate and under your site lighting to confirm acceptability before full production.
The choice between matte and gloss for PMS 198 C will influence both impact and visibility. Gloss finishes make PMS 198 C appear richer and more saturated, which increases vibrancy but may introduce glare under direct lighting. Matte finishes reduce reflections and glare, which can be better for close-up viewing or under strong lights, but they may mute the color's perceived intensity. Consider how your display will be viewed and lit when choosing a finish, and sample both if exact appearance is critical for your brand standards.
The color PMS 198 C may look different depending on the lighting in which it is viewed. For example, cool or blue-shifted lighting can make the reddish pink color seem deeper or cooler, while warm lighting may intensify its red undertone. Displaying PMS 198 C under natural, fluorescent, or LED lights may each produce a distinct effect. To ensure brand accuracy, always check samples of PMS 198 C paint under the specific lighting conditions where it will be seen before final approval.
Sampling PMS 198 C paint is strongly recommended for large or high-visibility projects, installations subject to brand approval, or any application where appearance under site lighting and on specific materials is critical. Vivid colors like PMS 198 C can change based on finish, substrate, and coverage, so sampling helps avoid surprises and ensures alignment with your intended brand result before committing to a full production run.
Unfortunately, no.
Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.
The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
