PMS 193 C from the Pantone PMS system is a saturated, dark red that signals strong presence while maintaining a balanced appearance. This color is often described as assertive, formal, and technical, with a clean and purposeful vibe. It is designed for situations demanding consistent, brand-aligned color reproduction across diverse materials.

PMS 193 C appears as a dark, vivid red, described as strong and rich. The color is warm, with a noticeable red hue and minimal cool influence. It shows high saturation, providing bold visual impact without muted or pastel qualities. The undertone leans toward a deep crimson, avoiding overt orange or magenta shifts. The color has a low LRV (12.5), meaning it absorbs significant light and will look considerably deeper in low-light environments. PMS 193 C may display slight finish sensitivity; gloss finishes can intensify its depth and vibrancy, while matte finishes may subdue it.

PMS 193 C is widely cited as a specification color for university athletics and academic branding. The color is frequently associated with sports team uniforms and merchandise, especially where a bold institutional red is required.

PMS 193 C works well in environments where a distinctive, recognizable red is needed for branding or visual identification. Carefully evaluate lighting conditions, as the depth of the color may shift under various artificial and natural sources. On highly textured or absorptive surfaces, coverage may require multiple coats due to the color’s low light reflectance. In comparative applications, PMS 193 C is generally deeper and more saturated than many standard reds, and care should be taken when matching to adjacent warm colors to avoid unintended visual conflicts.

This Pantone PMS color is defined by the Pantone Matching System standard. Evaluate the color using a physical Pantone reference and a real paint sample in the intended lighting and finish. Paint appearance varies by finish and lighting.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 193 C

Does Pantone PMS 193 C require more coats for full coverage compared to standard reds?

PMS 193 C is a highly saturated, dark red with a low light reflectance value (LRV 12.5), which means it absorbs a lot of light. As a result, this color may require additional coats to achieve a uniform, opaque appearance, especially on textured or highly absorbent surfaces. Planning for multiple coats ensures the color presents accurately and meets brand consistency expectations.

What production lead time should I expect when ordering custom paint matched to Pantone PMS 193 C?

Paint matched to PMS 193 C is made to order. The typical production lead time depends on the specific product format and current production volume, but orders usually ship within a few business days. For sensitive brand timelines or marketing installations, it is recommended to place orders early and confirm availability for your required format, such as spray paint, paint pens, or brush-in-cap bottles.

How can lighting affect the appearance of PMS 193 C in my application?

Pantone PMS 193 C can look noticeably different depending on viewing and lighting conditions. Because of its depth and saturation, artificial lighting, natural daylight, and finish type (matte or gloss) all influence the perceived vibrancy and warmth of the color. It is important to evaluate a physical paint sample of PMS 193 C under the specific lighting conditions where the item will be displayed to avoid unexpected shifts in appearance.

What product formats can I order for Pantone PMS 193 C, and how should I choose between them?

Pantone PMS 193 C is available in a range of product formats, including custom spray paint, paint pens, and brush-in-cap bottles. Each format serves different needs: spray paint is best for even coverage on displays and brand components, paint pens are suitable for small areas or prototypes, and brush-in-cap bottles support sample approval or minor detail work during fabrication. Base your selection on project requirements and application scale.

Can I use the Pantone PMS 193 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
