PMS 171 C is a Pantone Matching System (PMS) color, recognized for its bold, attention-getting orange appearance. This color is marked by a vibrant, saturated character, with a warm tendency and moderate lightness that balances impact and legibility. Typically selected for use in marketing, promotional, or display settings, PMS 171 C communicates energy, clarity, and immediacy.

- PMS 171 C appears as a moderately light, vivid orange (LRV 32.8). - The color has a strong warm tendency, with noticeable red and yellow undertones. - PMS 171 C is highly saturated and chromatic, offering a lively and energetic impression. - This color possesses a predominantly orange hue, with undertones leaning toward coral rather than yellow or red alone. - Finish and sheen can influence perceived brilliance, with glossier finishes amplifying intensity and matte reducing visual sharpness.

- PMS 171 C is often used for high-visibility signage, point-of-purchase displays, and promotional fixtures where quick recognition is required. - The color is specified in branded retail environments to direct attention and create a sense of urgency. - PMS 171 C is sometimes chosen by brands seeking a distinctive, warm, and impactful orange in their identity systems.

PMS 171 C is specified when maximum visual attention and dynamic orange coloration are required, particularly in branded contexts or environments demanding immediate recognition. It performs reliably in most lighting, but strong light can increase perceived saturation. Highly saturated colors like PMS 171 C may require additional coats or a tinted primer to achieve uniform coverage and avoid color shifting, especially when applied over darker substrates. Surface smoothness and finish selection should be evaluated, as gloss increases vibrancy while flat finishes may slightly mute the color.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 171 C

What does it mean to order PMS 171 C as paint?

Ordering PMS 171 C as paint means you are requesting a custom paint mixed to visually match the Pantone PMS 171 C reference. Pantone PMS colors are standardized visual targets, not specific paint formulas or finishes. This ensures you receive a color aligned to the PMS 171 C standard, but the resulting paint may vary in appearance depending on material, finish, and lighting. Always confirm that this type of match meets your project's brand and visual alignment requirements.

How can I get PMS 171 C paint faster if I have a marketing deadline?

If you need PMS 171 C paint by a specific date for a project or event, expedited production may be available during online checkout. To confirm if your deadline can be met, contact MyPerfectColor with your order details before finalizing your purchase. Planning ahead is recommended, especially for larger quantities or highly visible marketing installations.

Can PMS 171 C be used for prototypes or display concept models?

PMS 171 C is frequently chosen for prototypes and concept models when you need to align with brand colors early in product development. Choosing spray paint or other available paint formats allows you to evaluate visual appearance quickly. Review samples on your actual material and under intended lighting before full production, as both substrate and light can influence the final look of this vivid orange.

When is it appropriate to order a standard PMS 171 C match?

Ordering a standard PMS 171 C match is usually right for marketing, display, or exhibit projects where the Pantone reference is the required color target. This approach works well for branded environments, event displays, and prototypes where visual brand consistency is the main goal. If your project demands formal approval or highly critical brand review under specific lighting, consider evaluating a physical sample before bulk production.

How quickly will I receive my paint matched to Pantone PMS 171 C?
All paint is custom-made to order. While most orders ship within 48 hours, the lead-time for paint made to match Pantone PMS 171 C depends on the type of paint needed. Interior and exterior house paints usually ship within 1 to 3 business days, while custom spray paint typically takes 3-5 business days to ship. The transit time depends on your location and the shipping method you choose. If your need is immediate, select Expedited Production during checkout. Most expedited production orders ship within 24 hours on business days. Please contact MyPerfectColor if you are concerned about a specific deadline. We do our best to make sure you get your paint on time. Learn more about paint lead times at MyPerfectColor.
Can I use the Pantone PMS 171 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

Most people don't use a primer for a touch up paint application, but a primer may improve adhesion and is typically recommended for exterior applications.
How do I convert PMS 171 C to a different color from another paint company?

While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 171 C in paint, we don't provide any crossover information. We've found that every paint company offers its own unique selection of colors and rarely does a color have an exact equivalent in another company's color collection, especially for a color collection like Pantone which is designed for bright colors and inks.
