PMS 120 C is part of the Pantone PMS collection, which is a standardized system used in marketing, display fabrication, and industrial design to ensure accurate color reproduction across various materials and processes. This color conveys a gentle, fresh, and approachable feel, with a balanced and non-jarring presence suitable for environments that favor clarity without intensity.

PMS 120 C offers a distinctly light appearance, supported by a high LRV of 72.11. The color has a warm tendency, owing to its yellow hue orientation. This color displays moderate chroma, giving it a gentle but clearly identifiable yellow character. PMS 120 C carries a soft yellow undertone, avoiding harshness or an "acidic" effect. The color can appear more subdued or washed out in matte finishes and more luminous in higher-gloss applications.

PMS 120 C is effective when a light and approachable yellow is required, particularly in displays or branded settings where clarity and warmth are priorities. It should be evaluated carefully under intended lighting conditions, as lighter yellows like this can shift perceptibly and may pick up surrounding color influences more readily than stronger yellows. Coverage may sometimes require additional coats, and gloss level will affect vibrancy; sample both finish and surface for confirmation before large-scale specification. PMS 120 C behaves with less visual intensity than deeper yellows, providing a softer effect that aligns well with supporting light or neutral palettes.

Similar colors:
PMS 114 C — Slightly lighter and cooler, producing a gentler visual impact.

PMS 121 C — Similar in lightness but with marginally higher chroma for a sunnier appearance.

PMS 122 C — Noticeably more vivid and saturated, offering a brighter and more impactful yellow.

PMS 134 C — Warmer and a touch deeper, with a more pronounced golden undertone.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pantone™ PMS 120 C

How do I confirm that PMS 120 C is the correct Pantone reference for my project?

Pantone color codes like PMS 120 C may include suffixes or belong to specific series, which can be important for ensuring you use the correct reference. Always check your brand guidelines or project documentation to confirm that PMS 120 C, including the 'C' suffix for the coated series, is the intended color. Using the wrong suffix can result in visible color differences, especially when achieving brand consistency is a priority.

Should I choose interior or exterior paint for PMS 120 C applications?

Choose your paint type for PMS 120 C based on where and how it will be used. If the application is outdoors or exposed to weather, select an exterior paint for durability and resistance to fading. For indoor displays or branded environments, an interior paint is appropriate and may offer a wider range of finishes. Always match the product type to the exposure and performance needs of your project to ensure long-lasting color and appearance.

What does it mean to order paint matched to PMS 120 C?

Ordering paint matched to PMS 120 C means you are requesting a paint color that visually matches the Pantone PMS 120 C standard. Pantone PMS codes specify a color target, not a specific paint formula, coating process, or surface finish. This approach is ideal for achieving consistent brand color across various applications but may show slight variations depending on finish, substrate, and lighting conditions.

What is the typical production lead time for PMS 120 C paint?

PMS 120 C paint is made to order to match the Pantone standard. Production lead times depend on the chosen product type and current production volume. Most orders require several business days for manufacturing before shipping. For urgent projects or large quantities, contact customer service to discuss timeline expectations early in your planning process.

How quickly will I receive my paint matched to Pantone PMS 120 C?
All paint is custom-made to order. While most orders ship within 48 hours, the lead-time for paint made to match Pantone PMS 120 C depends on the type of paint needed. Interior and exterior house paints usually ship within 1 to 3 business days, while custom spray paint typically takes 3-5 business days to ship. The transit time depends on your location and the shipping method you choose. If your need is immediate, select Expedited Production during checkout. Most expedited production orders ship within 24 hours on business days. Please contact MyPerfectColor if you are concerned about a specific deadline. We do our best to make sure you get your paint on time. Learn more about paint lead times at MyPerfectColor.
Can I use the Pantone PMS 120 C for touch up?

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

To make spray paint matched to Pantone PMS 120 C. MyPerfectColor uses an acrylic enamel which is a fast-drying durable coating suitable for interior or exterior use. MyPerfectColor custom spray paint enables you to conveniently achieve a professional spray-smooth finish in any color in any sheen. The need for primer for Pantone PMS 120 C depends on the type of paint, the substrate being painted and where it will be located. See our Primer Selection Table to see what primer you might need and learn more about when you might need a primer. Most people don't use a primer for a touch up paint application, but a primer may improve adhesion and is typically recommended for exterior applications.
How do I convert PMS 120 C to a different color from another paint company?

While MyPerfectColor can provide PMS 120 C in paint, we don't provide any crossover information. We've found that every paint company offers its own unique selection of colors and rarely does a color have an exact equivalent in another company's color collection, especially for a color collection like Pantone which is designed for bright colors and inks.
