A match of US Government AMS-STD-595 33105 reads as a medium-dark brown with a warm, earthy cast. It is muted rather than bright, with a low-chroma yellow-brown undertone that keeps it from looking red or overly orange. With an LRV of 11.74, it sits in a darker range and will read more absorbent than a mid-tone neutral.

MyPerfectColor custom spray paint matched to this Fed Std 595C / AMS-STD-595 reference is suited to specification-driven work where a known government color standard is the target, not an official government-issued coating system. Common uses include touch-up or repainting of brackets, enclosures, equipment panels, housings, cabinets, carts, railings, hardware, and fabricated parts. It can also be used for color-coded accessories, mounts, covers, speaker grilles, and prototype or training pieces that need to stay aligned with the selected reference.

Because this is a darker, muted color, sheen, film build, and substrate condition can change how it reads after application. A smoother or glossier surface may make the brown look a little deeper and clearer, while textured or worn parts can make it appear flatter. On repairs beside older coatings, the standard match may still differ from faded or weathered surrounding paint. If the work is acceptance-sensitive, a sample panel or match to the existing part may be more appropriate than relying on the code alone.

Finish and surface preparation also matter on small parts and mixed-material assemblies. The same color can look different on bare metal, primed plastic, composite, or previously coated surfaces, especially when coverage is thin or uneven.

About US Government Federal Standard (now Aerospace Material Specification / AMS) 595 Colors. Fed-Std-595C / FED STD 595 Colors

The Federal Standard (now Aerospace Material Specification / AMS) 595 colors are used to specify colors for US Government applications. The color are used by the US Government agencies, branches and suppliers. The most common requests we receive for Fed Standard Colors are for spray paint, Direct to Metal and other paints for prototyping, marking and identification and touchup applications. Typical clients include the USCG, all branches of the Armed Services, the State Department, Lockheed Martin and Boeing. For example, we provided paint to the Navy for marking shells with the specific Fed Std color designated to identify the type of round.

We offer 5 standard sheens in our lacquer touchup paint: flat, low lustre, satin, semi-gloss or gloss. We also offer a full range of Alkyd and Acrylic Direct To Metal paints. Please contact us if you have any questions. Please submit RFQs to [email protected]

The colors in the Federal Standard set have no official names and are identified by five-digits. The numbers designate the sheen, color classification and color intensity.

The first digit will be 1,2 or 3 and indicates the level of sheen:
    1 = gloss
    2 = semi gloss
    3 = matt

The second digit indicates the color group;
      0 = Brown     5 = Blue
      1 = Red         6 = Grey
      2 = Orange   7 = Other (white, black, violet, metallic)
      3 = Yellow     8 = Fluorescent
      4 = Green

The third to fifth digits indicate the intensity. Lower numbers indicates a darker color and higher numbers indicate a lighter color.

While the Fed Std colors indicate sheen as part of the 5 digits, MyPerfectColor still requires you to enter a specific sheen. For example, the color Fed Std 37038 technically refers to a matte finish, but MyPerfectColor offers it in any sheen.

Frequently Asked Questions About Match of US Government™ AMS-STD-595 33105 *

What does AMS-STD-595 33105 mean when I order MyPerfectColor paint?

A match of US Government AMS-STD-595 33105 is a government color reference target. It tells you which color to match, but it does not by itself define the paint chemistry, gloss level, surface prep, corrosion system, or any formal approval status.

For ordering, treat AMS-STD-595 33105 as the color standard you want MyPerfectColor to match, then choose the product format and coating system that fit your project requirements.

Will MyPerfectColor paint matched to AMS-STD-595 33105 match an older in-service part exactly?

Not always. A correct match to AMS-STD-595 33105 can still look different next to an existing coating if the old finish has faded, weathered, changed sheen, or developed texture differences.

If the part is being repaired beside an aged finish, a standard color match may be acceptable for some jobs, but a sample panel or a match to the existing part can be the safer choice when visual acceptance is critical.

How should I plan dry time and recoat timing for MyPerfectColor AMS-STD-595 33105 paint?

Dry-to-touch, recoat time, and full cure are different milestones, and the correct timing depends on the specific MyPerfectColor product format you order for AMS-STD-595 33105.

Use the product instructions for the exact format you buy, and plan your work around those directions rather than assuming the color code controls the schedule. If the job is time-sensitive, confirm the recoat window before you start.

Does the finish choice change how AMS-STD-595 33105 looks after application?

Yes. The color reference for AMS-STD-595 33105 is only part of the final appearance. Gloss level, matte or satin finish, film build, texture, and the substrate can all change how the matched color reads after it is applied.

If the finish matters to the project, make sure the product format and sheen are selected to fit the part, because the same color can look different once the coating is on the surface.

What kinds of projects commonly use AMS-STD-595 33105 MyPerfectColor paint?

A match of US Government AMS-STD-595 33105 is commonly used for specification-driven work such as equipment parts, panels, brackets, enclosures, housings, carts, fixtures, fabricated parts, prototypes, and mock-ups.

It is a practical choice when a drawing, maintenance document, procurement package, or color-coding requirement calls for a government color standard and you need MyPerfectColor paint matched to that reference.
