A match of US Government AMS-STD-595 30118 is a dark brown with a muted, earthy character and a warm yellow-brown undertone. It sits in a low-lightness range, so it reads deeper than tan or khaki and less blackened than a near-neutral brown.

MyPerfectColor custom-matched spray paint in this color can be used on equipment panels, brackets, housings, enclosures, rails, tool carts, fixtures, switch covers, and fabricated support parts when a government color standard is the target. It is also practical for restoration or retrofit work on legacy components where a muted brown needs to be carried across metal, plastic, composite, or previously coated surfaces.

Because the color is dark and relatively low-chroma, it usually hides substrate color better than a light shade, but finish still matters. A gloss or semi-gloss application can make the warm undertone and surface condition more visible, while a flatter finish will mute the color and reduce reflected variation. On touch-up work beside older coatings, the standard reference may be correct while the existing part still looks different because of wear, oxidation, or sheen change.

Fed Std 595C and AMS-STD-595 codes are color references, not complete coating specifications. MyPerfectColor supplies its own paint matched to the selected government color standard, not an official government-issued coating system. For acceptance-critical work, a sample panel or comparison to the existing part may be needed if the surrounding surface has aged or if the project controls finish and system as well as color.

About US Government Federal Standard (now Aerospace Material Specification / AMS) 595 Colors. Fed-Std-595C / FED STD 595 Colors

The Federal Standard (now Aerospace Material Specification / AMS) 595 colors are used to specify colors for US Government applications. The color are used by the US Government agencies, branches and suppliers. The most common requests we receive for Fed Standard Colors are for spray paint, Direct to Metal and other paints for prototyping, marking and identification and touchup applications. Typical clients include the USCG, all branches of the Armed Services, the State Department, Lockheed Martin and Boeing. For example, we provided paint to the Navy for marking shells with the specific Fed Std color designated to identify the type of round.

We offer 5 standard sheens in our lacquer touchup paint: flat, low lustre, satin, semi-gloss or gloss. We also offer a full range of Alkyd and Acrylic Direct To Metal paints. Please contact us if you have any questions. Please submit RFQs to [email protected]

The colors in the Federal Standard set have no official names and are identified by five-digits. The numbers designate the sheen, color classification and color intensity.

The first digit will be 1,2 or 3 and indicates the level of sheen:
    1 = gloss
    2 = semi gloss
    3 = matt

The second digit indicates the color group;
      0 = Brown     5 = Blue
      1 = Red         6 = Grey
      2 = Orange   7 = Other (white, black, violet, metallic)
      3 = Yellow     8 = Fluorescent
      4 = Green

The third to fifth digits indicate the intensity. Lower numbers indicates a darker color and higher numbers indicate a lighter color.

While the Fed Std colors indicate sheen as part of the 5 digits, MyPerfectColor still requires you to enter a specific sheen. For example, the color Fed Std 37038 technically refers to a matte finish, but MyPerfectColor offers it in any sheen.

Frequently Asked Questions About Match of US Government™ AMS-STD-595 30118 *

What does AMS-STD-595 30118 mean when I order MyPerfectColor paint, and what does it not define?

AMS-STD-595 30118 identifies a government color reference target. When you order MyPerfectColor paint, it means the paint is custom-matched to that color reference.

The code does not by itself choose the coating chemistry, gloss level, surface prep, corrosion system, or any formal approval status. If your project needs a specific coating system or acceptance process, confirm those requirements separately before ordering.

Will MyPerfectColor paint matched to AMS-STD-595 30118 also match an older in-service coating on my part?

Not always. A correct match to AMS-STD-595 30118 can still look different next to an older coating that has faded, weathered, changed sheen, or built texture over time.

If you are repairing a visible area beside an existing finish, the standard reference may not be the best target. In those cases, a sample panel, an existing-part match, or a full-part repaint may reduce mismatch risk.

How should I plan dry time and recoat timing for MyPerfectColor AMS-STD-595 30118 paint?

Dry-to-touch, recoat time, and full cure are different stages. For MyPerfectColor paint matched to AMS-STD-595 30118, use the product label or technical data for the specific format you order.

Plan the job around the product format, the substrate, the film build, and the application method. Do not assume that a paint that feels dry can be recoated or handled right away.

How do I reorder MyPerfectColor paint for AMS-STD-595 30118 and keep repeat jobs consistent?

Reorder by the exact code, AMS-STD-595 30118, and keep the same product type and finish if you want the closest repeatable result. MyPerfectColor can custom-match the selected government color reference, but substrate and application method can still change the final look.

For multi-part projects, use the same order details across all parts and avoid mixing different formats unless the project calls for it.

What kinds of parts or projects commonly use MyPerfectColor AMS-STD-595 30118 paint?

A match of US Government AMS-STD-595 30118 is commonly used for specification-driven work such as equipment parts, panels, brackets, housings, enclosures, cabinets, hardware, prototypes, mock-ups, and color-coded components.

If your project is based on a drawing, maintenance manual, procurement package, or bid spec, MyPerfectColor paint matched to AMS-STD-595 30118 gives you a reference-based color target for that work.
