Pantone™ PMS 2280 U

PMS 2280 U is a Pantone PMS reference color, which means it functions as a visual target for brand consistency rather than a material-specific paint formula. In sign, display, and exhibit fabrication, it is commonly used to align fabricated elements to a brand standard specified in guidelines.

When ordering paint matched to PMS 2280 U, the goal is visual alignment under expected lighting and viewing conditions. Because substrates, finishes, and application methods influence appearance, many teams confirm the match on the actual material used in the display before full production.

If you need the new coating to visually integrate with an existing painted part, a Pantone PMS 2280 U match is usually not the correct path. Pantone codes describe a brand color target, not the exact color of an already-painted object.

In situations where an existing part must be matched closely, the most reliable approach is to send a physical sample so the color can be matched directly to that surface. Ordering a PMS 2280 U match is best suited to brand-defined applications where the Pantone reference itself is the approval standard.

Spray paint matched to PMS 2280 U is intended for visual brand accuracy, not for a guaranteed durability outcome on its own. Durability depends on surface preparation, the specific paint chemistry selected, whether a clear coat is used, and the environment where the painted item will be installed.

For displays or exhibits, selecting the paint type based on indoor or outdoor exposure and handling expectations is more important than the Pantone code itself. The PMS 2280 U reference controls color appearance, while durability is determined by product choice and application.

The choice between matte and gloss can significantly change how PMS 2280 U is perceived, even though the color target is the same. Gloss finishes tend to increase saturation and visual punch but can introduce glare under strong lighting.

Matte finishes reduce reflections and glare, which can be beneficial for close viewing or brightly lit environments, but they may appear slightly softer in color. When the application is brand-critical, it is often helpful to evaluate PMS 2280 U in the intended finish and lighting before final approval.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.
