Pantone™ PMS 2279 U

PMS 2279 U is a Pantone PMS color reference, not a paint formula. Each order is custom matched to the Pantone standard at the time of production. To keep results consistent across reorders, use the same product type, sheen, and application method every time.

If your project has approval requirements, keep a physical sample from an accepted run and compare future orders to that sample under the same lighting. This approach helps manage normal batch-to-batch variation that can occur with custom-matched Pantone colors.

One spray can of PMS 2279 U typically covers about 10 to 12 square feet with one medium coat. Actual coverage depends on spray technique, surface texture, and how many coats are required.

Highly saturated Pantone colors can require additional coats for uniform hide, especially over dark or uneven substrates. For planning purposes, assume more than one coat and order extra cans to account for overlap, test spraying, and visual evaluation.

Yes. PMS 2279 U is commonly used on prototypes and concept models where visual brand alignment is the goal. Pantone PMS colors work well when stakeholders need to evaluate appearance, contrast, and overall brand presence rather than final production durability.

For prototype workflows, choose a paint format that matches how the model will be viewed and handled. It is also a good practice to review the color on the actual substrate and under intended lighting before final approval.

Whether a primer is needed for PMS 2279 U depends on the substrate, the paint type, and the exposure conditions. Bare metals, plastics, and porous surfaces often benefit from a compatible primer to improve adhesion and color uniformity.

Using a primer can also help reduce the number of color coats needed, which is especially useful for saturated Pantone colors. When in doubt, testing the full system on a small area is the best way to confirm results.

Unfortunately, no.

Some manufacturers specify Pantone colors as touch up for their products, but Pantone does not work well as a proxy for a touch-up solution (for a litany of reasons such as it doesn't include sheen and Pantone color tolerances are not tight enough for touch up). When we match Pantone colors we are matching to a swatch in a Pantone book - not to your product.

The only way we can provide a touch-up solution for your product is for you send us a part. We would use the part to create a touch-up grade match. Unfortunately, there isn't an effective way to 'spec' the color well enough to produce a touch up without the part.

The 11oz spray will cover about 20 square feet per coat. Keep in mind that it is difficult to gauge how much spray you'll need as it is highly dependent on how it is applied. It is better to have too much than run short.

We've found that every paint company offers its own unique selection of colors and rarely does a color have an exact equivalent in another company's color collection, especially for a color collection like Pantone which is designed for bright colors and inks.
